KitchenAid are a brand associated with sleek design and heavy-duty performance – so when we heard they were launching a coffee press, we were keen to try it out.

Key features
Thanks to integrated scales you can weigh your coffee grounds and water directly into the coffee maker, dosing as per their recommendations. There's also a timer to ensure it steeps for the suggested amount of time (4 mins) before you plunge.

Our verdict
We plunged our way through numerous cups of steaming hot coffee and assessed how well insulated it kept the brew, how accurate its scales were and how easy it was to use and clean. We found the scales were very accurate and can be displayed in either grams or ounces, depending on your preference. For the scales to work, the coffee maker needs to be sitting on a flat surface, so you can't fill it from a boiling hot water tap.

What to read next

It has dual-walls for thermal insulation and to ensure your coffee stays hot, which it did so effectively, delivering coffee at about 75C after 10 minutes. It was easy to operate and the plunger was nice and smooth in use. It pours well, with no drips, and was easy enough to clean after use despite not being dishwasher-safe. Made from stainless steel, it has a sleek and attractive appearance that would sit proudly on your work surface.

GHI Tip: Do not pour your used coffee grounds down your sink plughole. They appear to go down easily but in reality they pile up and cause a sludgy, sediment-like mess in your drain. Ensure you dispose of them in your recycling bin.
