If you think of online grocery shopping, you might not necessarily think of Amazon first, but the global retailer has been trying to grow its share of the UK's grocery delivery market ever since it launched Amazon Fresh in the UK in 2016.

Building on the success of its Amazon Fresh brand in the US, which has been operating Stateside for several years before it moved into the UK market, the plan was to offer more than 130,000 groceries to homes, initially in north and east London, including thousands of fresh produce, dairy and bakery items. It later extended its service to a wider audience.

Instead of going it alone though, Amazon has now partnered with supermarkets such as Co-op, Iceland and Morrisons to deliver their products, as well as retailing under the Amazon Fresh brand. Amazon recently scrapped Amazon Fresh in Portsmouth, Glasgow, Sheffield, Leeds and Newcastle, but said it was continuing to operate Amazon Fresh in other parts of the country including London and the south east, Liverpool, Birmingham and Manchester. The service is currently available in over 100 towns and cities across the UK.
