We love gin and we love a mince pie, and now some geniuses over at Asda have figured out a way to combine the two for Christmas.
That’s right, the supermarket is going big on its festive gin offering this year with three new flavours designed to amp up cocktails.
The first is the new Extra Special Winter Spiced Gin with Cranberry and Clementine for £18 which is triple distilled with added festive spices and tastes best paired with a tonic or lemonade.
The Mince Pie Gin Liqueur costs £10 and is perfectly paired with a bottle of Extra Special Clementine and Cinnamon Tonic.
And, for those with a sweet tooth, there is the new Toasted Marshmallow Gin Liqueur for £12.
This one promises to give a taste of freshly toasted marshmallows in every sip and is best when paired with Prosecco for a light pink-coloured tipple.
Ed Sowerby, Asda gin product developer, comments: “Gin continues to be a favourite with our customers, especially around the festive season where gifts and something to impress guests with is top of customers’ agendas, so we’re proud of the innovation which has gone into creating our latest festive spirits.
“We wanted to make sure that there was a seasonal sip for every palate, and we’re sure that our customers will love our latest additions to the Extra Special gin collection.”
And fans of last year’s sell out Extra Special Gingerbread Gin will be pleased to hear the sparkly beverage is returning to shelves again this month.
The gins landed in Asda stores on 12 October.

People praised the runner-up gin for its floral and fragrant attributes. Described as creamy by some, it was overall seen as a refreshing and enjoyable liqueur to drink.

This gin is spiced yet fresh and vibrant with a lovely soft, creamy texture. It's noticeably sweet yet smooth.

Plenty of words came up in the flavour profile of this gin from lemonade and cream soda, to rhubarb and pine. We enjoyed its sweet taste and warming finish.

Lovely dark forest fruit flavours shone through here including black cherry and blackcurrant. Likened to blackcurrant squash, we enjoyed the sweet smell, paired with the medicinal and herby flavours of juniper.

This gin tasted syrupy, with sweet pineapple dominating, followed by a burnt sugar sweetness and warming ginger aftertaste.

The notes of passionfruit definitely come through here, along with hints of mango, apricot and other tropical fruits. Described as smooth to drink, this liqueur was sweet but not overbearing.

If you love strawberries you'll love this, with testers likening the aroma to strawberry laces or a jam doughnut. The texture is smooth and the alcohol warm, but a little too bitter for some tastes.

Wilkin & Sons English Strawberry Gin Liqueur
Flavours of strawberry, caramel, and even peppery rocket were described when tasting this complex gin. Not overly sweet, testers enjoyed the flavour but felt the finish could have been longer.

This gin had a well-balanced flavour profile, with notes of juniper, red berries, almond and bitter herbs coming through. A good gin, that left a minty freshness on the palate.
