If you were in any doubt that we’re living in a new era of real, unfiltered beauty, take a look at Instagram lately. Facetuned skin smoothing is out, heavily contoured makeup feels positively antiquated and celebrities are proud to share and celebrate their bare complexions.
And while Pamela Anderson may be the current poster girl for going makeup-free, Desperate Housewives icon Teri Hatcher is one of the bare-faced beauty OGs, thanks to a slew of real beauty online content. Now she’s just posted her most candid-ever photos on her Instagram, complete with an unapologetically pro-age rallying cry.
Sharing a montage of four filter-free selfies on her grid, a makeup-free Teri can be seen smiling against a sunset backdrop, making zero attempt to digitally smooth out her laughter lines. Better still? The actress boldly takes on the trolls at their own game, daring them to zoom in and offer their criticism.
Captioning the post ‘Make-up free selfie’, Teri writes: ‘So, Here’s a no-filter shot of me facing the sun, and with it at my back. Every line… a story of real human effort, successes & flaws. Feel free to zoom in. Is one angle more forgiving? More “beautiful”?’
Anticipating the inevitable ageist comments, Teri makes it clear she has no time or headspace for such negativity, and offers her own empowering take on being 60.
She adds: ‘How we frame beauty is everything — my perception? I choose gratitude for the time gifted in every wrinkle. I first put my naked face out there in 2010 – everyone told me I was crazy but 15 years later, I’m still here, still saying it’s okay to be real.’ Amen to that, Terri.
While it’s the kind of content we’ve come to love from Teri, we’re a bit more surprised (but just as delighted) to see other celebrities stripping it all back this week.
Take Carol Vorderman, who often prefers to share photos that show off her glamorous, red-carpet beauty, complete with mane of blow-dried blonde hair and immaculately-applied makeup. However, her latest social post shows her off-duty side, enjoying family holiday time with not a scrap of makeup in sight.
The TV presenter is pictured beaming bare-faced as she leans into long-term friend Craig Burton, who she’s known since her days working at Yorkshire TV – ‘where Richard Whiteley and I made Countdown’, she reminisces.
She adds: ‘So we’ve had our family hols with lots of kids… from age 4 to 73 staying and my brother Anton celebrated his 72nd birthday with more cake than I can remember 😂 Top time and we’re home now and can’t stop smiling. Bliss ❤️❤️❤️❤️’

The actor looked radiant as she posed for a carousel of Instagram snaps from luxury Lefay Resorts & Residences, which she’s enjoyed with her actor husband Matthew Macfadyen. To be fair, Keeley is always going to look great bare-faced, but she looked even better with her new microbladed brows to frame her eyes.
