The formulas work with a two-pronged approach, combining highly active, glow-boosting, decongesting liquid exfoliants with nourishing, hydrating ingredients. Plus they come in a PHA, BHA and AHA options, so there's a milder choice for those new to liquid exfoliants, building up to those with experience. One big tip... don't try to shortcut and dive in the deep end.

Tiptoe In

The Tiptoe In PHA Exfoliant is described as the gateway, perfect for first-timers and those with sensitive skin, it helps with a radiant, hydrated complexion but uses kind-to-skin PHA (poly-hydroxy acid) to buff the skin for gentle exfoliation without irritation. Lactobionic acid is credited with clearing the dead skin cells while trehalose promises to attract water and hold it in the skin to help restore hydration, and azelaic acid is included to help calm angry skin.

Increasing in intensity, Find Your Balance BHA Exfoliant is suitable for all skin types — though labelled as the best choice for blemish prone skin — helping congested skin find balance, unclogging pores and claiming to maximise good bacteria and minimise bad.

Salicylic acid and willowbark (two forms of BHA) promise to exfoliate inside pores to help reduce breakouts, blackheads and whiteheads, while mandelic acid (an alpha-hydroxy acid) is said to gently breakdown the glue that holds onto dead skin cells. Leaving you with radiant and clarified skin.

Trinny London Reveal Yourself

Reveal Yourself

Levelling up to the Reveal Yourself AHA Exfoliant, highly active alpha-hydroxy acids lactic and malic acid penetrate deep into the skin, their tiny molecule size working down through top layers for strong exfoliation, promising to brighten, even out tone and even reduce the appearance of fine lines.

The brand credit Succinic acid with boosting the energy of 'sluggish skin cells that slow down with age or stress'. Plus a betaine amino acid complex is included to help skin maintain moisture levels. This one isn't suitable for sensitive skin or beginners to liquid exfoliants. But can be great to move onto after a period of using the BHA.

Applied to the face neck and décolleté, avoiding the delicate eye area, the products are massaged in with finger tips and do not need rinsing or wiping off. All should be used twice a week initially, slowly building up to daily.

Tiptoe In is recommended for use morning and night, while stronger Balance Me and Reveal Yourself should should be used at night, after your cleanser, before any serums or moisturisers. This helps protect your skin as AHA's and BHA's can make your skin more sensitive and vulnerable to sun, that's why it's also essential to pair with a good SPF.
