Last year Pixi Beauty celebrated its 20th anniversary, and in that time has launched products which have gone on to achieve cult status.
The brand's founder, makeup artist Petra Strand reveals, "I started Pixi by mixing and blending pigments and formulations around my kitchen table. Being Swedish, I grew up surrounded by a fresh and effortless approach to beauty, with an emphasis on botanicals and beneficial ingredients. I was desperate to have products in my kit that truly benefitted the skin."
And she did exactly that. Under every flattering finish and pretty shade lie good-for-skin ingredients such as strengthening ceramides and hyaluronic acid, to ensure skin stays hydrated and plump.
Petra’s goal has always been to create products that “make the most of natural beauty”. As a result, Pixi makeup is versatile enough to build from a low-key look to something more glamorous. Here, we round up our beauty team’s favourites.
If you're looking for moisture, this creamy lip colour has it in spades. It glides on smoothly without accentuating flaky skin or dry patches, and the nourishing cocktail of mango and shea butters keeps lips soft and supple. Go ahead, get one in every shade.
A light dusting of this highlighter/blush hybrid onto the highest points of your cheeks gives life to winter complexions. No disco ball effect here; the shimmer is ultra-fine to give skin just a hint of radiance, even on the greyest of days.
We don't know about you, but this colour story is putting us in the mood for summer. Created with beauty influencer Denise Sanchez, this 9-pan palette is all you need for gleaming cheekbones and sunkissed skin. The soft powders sit beautifully on the eyelids without creasing and can be layered or mixed to create a bespoke hue.
Pixi Makeup Fixing Mist
More than just a setting spray, this mist contains rose water and green tea to instantly soothe the skin and take away any cakiness.
"Whenever I get a little heavy-handed with the foundation or powder, a generous spritz of this will soften the look," says beauty assistant Medina Azaldin. "I'll also spritz my brush before dipping into a powder eyeshadow. It helps to intensify the pigments and keep it in place."
That versatility earned high marks in our GHI test.
The gradient colourway might appear gimmicky but is actually a clever way to lend colour and warmth to the complexion with just one swoop of a big fluffy brush. Simply swirl across the entire pan and swish it across your cheeks and gently on the nose bridge. There's little risk of going overboard with the subtle, buildable pigments, and no need for separate bronzer and blush.
You can also customise the shade according to your needs. For instant freshness, use the two softer shades. Want a bit of brightness? Use the first highlighting shade on cheek and brow bones.
These pencils glide onto the eye line without tugging, and come in a variety of shades for subtle pops of colour. Beauty Editor, Gillian Davies likes to use these by blending out the pigment to create a subtle smokey effect.
Who says glitter is only for Christmas? These glosses feel balmy and sit comfortably on the lip while imparting a soft shine.
Amanda Bell, Pixi Senior Global Director of Education and Artistry advises to "apply the gloss with a clean fingertip for the softest finish. The warmth of the fingertip sheers out the shimmer, giving it more of a glazed effect that goes beautifully with soft, matte skin."
Quick and easy to blend with your finger, this is a staple for the morning rush.
Amanda Bell says "every shade will complement or contrast with your eye colour - the more contrast, the more it will make your eye colour pop".
In three fresh, sheer shades, this versatile stick (it's billed as a blusher, but we also like it on the lips) is fool-proof to apply.
Pat on with fingers, or buff in with a medium-dense brush for a seamless finish. It's easily buildable on deeper skin tones; beauty assistant, Medina Azaldin loves the dewy finish they give.
This pretty lip brightener is senior beauty editor Alexandra Friend's must-have pick, for its rosy tint and nourishing lip balm core with Vitamin C.
"Pixi’s genius is in its brightening skincare and its fresh and pretty aesthetic', she says. 'This is a clever combination of both – a barely-there lip tint with high-spec skincare actives".
With a mix of creamy shades, light-catching metallics and matte shadows, the Pixi Eye Reflections Palette takes the hard work out of creating eye make-up with any depth and dimension. Infused with vitamin E and skin conditioning emollients, the shadows are gentle on delicate skin, too.
Beauty Intern Phoebe Lee's preferred base is always lightweight, hydrating and dewy. "The H2O SkinTint is just that and more," she said. It lightly perfects the skin for an untraceable, skin-like finish, and has a hydrating rosewater formula for complexion-care benefits . It scored great reviews in our GHI test too.
This semi-sheer plumping gloss makes mouths look and feel fuller, with a trick-the-eye sheen, refreshing minty tingle and just the right amount of colour for an easy, everyday lip.
