You have to hand it to Victoria Beckham, she’s a woman who pours her heart and soul into her beauty line. And that means a certain Mr David Beckham is baked deep into the brand’s DNA. Her fragrances bottle up all their favourite romantic memories, especially Portofino ‘97 which apparently smells like the Italian getaway the couple enjoyed in their first flush of love.
And if that wasn’t up close and personal enough, Lady Beckham has now created a Victoria Beckham Beauty blusher designed to replicate a post-sex flush. Imagine the R&D process on that one.
This product in question is called Colour Wash, and the idea behind it is certainly enough to get the blood racing. As Victoria teases: ‘An activated water formula that recreates the fresh vibrant flush that follows an invigorating workout, a sun-soaked afternoon — or anything else that gets the blood flowing…’
Yep, we think we catch your drift, Vic.
The blusher combines cheek-enlivening pigments with hydrating skincare benefits, thanks to mineralised French sea water and coconut fruit water. The light, ultra fluid formula is meant to give plenty of time for it to blend into skin, for that glowing-from-within look. And being a stain formula, it also promises to have exceptional staying power. Say no more.
It comes in three shades: perky orange Coral, berry mauve Vintage Rose, and finally Flushed, which is Victoria’s go-to shade. Sex with Becks in a bottle? This we had to try.
Armed with a shade each and possibly an over-active imagination, here’s what the GH team thought of theirs.
Beauty director Lynne tests Vintage Rose
It’s been ten years since I interviewed David Beckham at an event for his fragrance, and my husband will never allow me to forget the fact I bought a dress with a full body zip down the front for the occasion. If memory serves me correctly, the phrase ‘Lynne, I’m genuinely embarrassed for you,’ was bandied around on the day.
Anyway, I only mention this to say I’m fully aware of what a David Beckham-induced flush looks like - only my shade would be ‘tragic crush’.
The one I’m testing, Vintage Rose, looks anything but rose-like at first glance. The fluid is very dark, and appears disturbingly purple in the bottle. However, like Clinique’s equally goth-adjacent Black Honey, it proves very wearable once it’s on the skin. In terms of the effect, I’ll keep it clean and say it’s like an invigorating jog!
My only grumble is the pipette applicator. Squeezing out little drops makes it more complicated than it needs, and I found it tricky to get myself in the right position. And once again, I will end it there!
Features editor Bethan tests Flushed
'I was slightly apprehensive when I was handed what looked like a bottle of fountain pen ink, in a deep purpley colour. Dabbing it on the back of my hand, however, I was impressed as the watery liquid blended to a fresh pink on my skin.
Application to my cheeks, however, was unexpectedly tricky. Firstly, the pipette was quite stiff, and it was difficult to judge how much product was being applied. I found dabbing the blusher onto my finger first was the easiest way to manage the application, as going from straight from the pipette meant it ran like watercolour paint down my cheekbones. But once it was on, I loved the colour and it gave a natural flush which lasted well. So I’ll be continuing to wear it - however fiddly!'
Accreditation executive Monai tests Coral
‘I have to say, this might be my new favourite go-to blush for an effortless 10-minute makeup routine, which usually takes place when I’m rushing out of the house!
I regularly use liquid blushes but I’ve never applied a blush that is in such a liquid form, so I was curious to see how pigmented this water-based blush would be on my skin. I applied it directly onto my cheekbones and nose with the pipette applicator and placed roughly 6-8 drops per cheek to achieve my preferred colour intensity.
As it’s lightweight, it was quick and easy to pat into my skin with a makeup brush, leaving a flushed, glowy finish. Despite needing to use a lot of drops to get my desired result, I love how hydrating and natural the blush feels and looks, making it perfect for busy days where I want to look put together without the effort.’
