We talked (and, maybe, ranted a little); they listened. Glossier, makers of the ridiculously wearable and infinitely popular Balm Dotcom, £11 (which has been an industry insider and personal favourite since the day it launched), has brought the Wild Fig shade back from its limited-edition wilderness, and made it a permanent colour in the collection. Hurrah, particularly as this pretty shade – which looks almost jam-like but we find goes on a coral-meets-natural-lip-colour – is so utterly perfect for spring. (It does sell out but rest assured is re-stocked quickly so keep an eye out.)
Note: Should you get directed to Glossier's US website via our links, simply go to their menu and change shipping country to the UK, which should appear in the bottom left-hand corner.
The return of Wild Fig is part of a wider revamp for Balm Dotcom, which has had a makeover for 2023.
Firstly, while the dense consistency of this balm is as nourishing and pleasurable to use as ever (one of the key reasons, as far as we're concerned, for its cult-ness), it is now formulated with carefully selected emollients that make it vegan friendly. And this plant-based emollient blend mixes with synthetic beeswax, vitamin E and castor jelly for a combination that makes lips feel gorgeously glossy and hydrated without greasiness or shine (we can't bear a greasy lip here on the GH beauty desk).
Secondly, the balm has a clever new – and much more ergonomic – applicator that allows you to apply it directly on the lips (before it was with a finger).
There are now nine permanent ‘flavours’ in the Balm Dotcom family, some of which are colourless like the yummy smelling Coconut and refreshing Mint, and some of which are deliciously (yet only very sheerly) tinted. Among our favourites are Berry – a deep fruity wine shade that gives a bitten lip look and is currently in the handbags of two of our beauty editors; and Rose – the prettiest barely-there pink which, like all the colours, can be layered up for a stronger shade.
The cute colourways of the tubes are the cherry on top. And at such a reasonable price (you can buy a customised trio for £28, too), we'll be investing in one in every colour... maybe in every handbag...
