No one is keeping us on our toes quite like Kristin Scott Thomas, whose latest hair transformation has taken us by complete surprise. In recent months, she’s become quite the figurehead for embracing an all-over grey hair look and looking absolutely gorgeous while doing so. However, she seems to have taken a different tack and returned to the blonde.
Last night, Kristin made an appearance at the screening of My Mother’s Wedding, her directorial debut. She looked as glam as ever, but we had to do a double-take at her freshly coloured golden shade.
Kristin both stars in and directs the upcoming comedy drama alongside Sienna Miller and Scarlett Johansson, so perhaps her new look takes inspiration from those two blonde icons. She’s opted for a warm honey blonde colour as a new base shade, although she’s kept her lighter ‘halo grey’ pieces at the front, albeit with a warmer tone.
The warm ‘golden hour’ blonde shade she’s gone for is something that we’ve already seen hairstylist and trend-spotter Tom Smith predict as hot for summer 2025. (And this is exactly what we’ve come to expect from the man whose forecasting has earned him the title of ‘the hairvoyant’ among beauty insiders.)
In an Instagram video about the golden-hour blonde trend, Tom describes it as: ‘That kind of early evening light in hair colour form.’ Breaking down the look further, he adds: ‘This hair colour trend is warm and rich and sun-kissed. Golden-hour blonde fuses the best of copper and blonde into one hyper-flattering shade. It’s deeper and more dimensional than last year’s sunflower blonde, with a glow over high gloss.’
Speaking to GH about Kristin's new look, Tom added: 'The brighter face framing panel that honours Kristin's natural grey hair gives a beautiful contour and lift to the face in conjunction with the golden hour blonde tones added through the rest of the hair. This is a clever way of incorporating the natural hair into the colour design, therefore making it lower maintenance and more natural looking than if one shade was used all over.'
The colour leans into a laid-back summer mood, and Kristin styled her golden blonde makeover in a more relaxed way compared to her recent red carpet appearances. Instead of opting for the pushed-back, structured styles we’ve seen on her lately, her hair was left to cascade freely, parted to the side to create a fringe effect that framed her face beautifully.
Makeup-wise, she showcased a fresh, warm look to complement her hair tone. Her complexion looked radiant, with a lit-from-within glow, further enhanced by a dusting of bronzer to warm up her face for a sun-kissed finish. A sweep of coral blush on the apples of her cheeks gave her a pretty, natural-looking flush.
She kept the rest of her look tonal, with warm coral eyeshadow and matching lipstick tying the whole look together. For the final touch, her eyes were accentuated with a swipe of black eyeliner for added depth, finished with a coating of mascara for long, fluttery lashes.
Here at GH, we’re all for embracing the grey – and we think it can look incredibly chic (just take a look at our guide to going grey without looking older). That said, sometimes a hair makeover is exactly the kind of pick-me-up you need. Either way, one thing’s for sure… we’re more than a little envious that Kristin can pull off every hair colour with ease.
