Wimbledon served up plenty of beauty inspiration this year, from the Princess of Wales’s pecan-bronde hair to Hannah Waddingham’s glossy lips, but along comes Helen Mirren with the champion-winning shot. The actress swept into the finals day with a fresh new hair look that’s every bit as iconic as she is.

Helen has chopped several inches off her hair, wearing it at a sharp new cheekbone bob level, along with a beautifully-sliced sliced fringe. Game, set and match Ms Mirren!

It’s a look that’s had hair expert and trend forecaster Tom Smith calling ‘love all!’ and we couldn’t agree more. ‘Helen Mirren is known for her hair statements and her new curved haircut at Wimbledon is serving serious style with what I’d call the “Topspin Bob”,’ Tom tells GH. ‘It’s a sharp, precise shape that slices in just above the shoulders and has real bounce.’

Hitting hard and true into the tennis theme, Tom adds: ‘Helen’s cut has lift, shape, and effortless movement (like the perfect backhand!) The rounded bevel through the ends gives it energy and swing, while the clean silhouette keeps it chic.’ It is, in a word, ace.

As well as giving a polished, modern look, Helen's bob has the added benefit of making her hair look thicker. As Tom explains: ‘It really maximises the density and natural texture of her hair.’

It even plays a great game of doubles with her silver colour: ‘It’s paired perfectly with her snowy blonde that makes the most of her natural grey strands but with a clean, creamy, reflective shine,’ Tom tells us.

With so much head-turning hair action going on, you might be forgiven for missing another deft beauty touch from Helen. Larking around in the Evian lounge ahead of the men's final, her racket grip was enhanced by a fresh manicure in a trending black-cherry shade of nail polish. Smashed it!

Helen is the shiniest star in the silver constellation, but she’s in good company right now. Her fellow L’Oréal Paris girl Andie MacDowell is fully embracing her natural greys, Kristin Scott Thomas is working the 'halo' growing-out method, and Salma Hayek is steering clear of hair dye as well (although she’s shared her new bizarre way to tame any stubborn wiry bits – find the details here!)
