She’s never anything but iconic, but Glenn Close looked especially magnificent at the Tony Awards last night. The actress took to the stage with a striking new hairstyle, giving the audience chills (in the best way) with her ice-queen vibes. Think Frozen’s Queen Elsa a few decades on and more fabulous than ever.
Glenn swapped her recent softer hairstyle for a dramatic, more structured look, with her hair cropped short into her neck and with her ice-white crown swept up, up and away. For max drama, Glenn contrasted her ultra-pale hair with a black trouser suit and lacy black top. Very chic indeed.
Her hairdresser, Gareth Bromell, shared his work on his Instagram, captioning it: ‘The coolest @glennclose 💥💥💥’
The icy beauty theme was echoed by Glenn’s makeup artist, Benjamin Puckey, who added a shot of silver across the lids to create a glistening twist on a traditional smokey eye. Although the jet-black liquid eyeliner was as icicle-sharp as Glenn’s hair, Benjamin balanced the ice-queen eyes with softly blurred-out lips and blusher; makeup that had beauty fans melting.
‘How do you make a beautiful woman even more beautiful? Absolutely exquisite look,’ one fan posted.
Glenn shared the Tony Awards stage with another theatrical beauty, Nicole Scherzinger, who later went on to win Best Actress In A Musical for her role in Sunset Boulevard. A few weeks ago, a gory-looking Nicole posed with Glenn backstage at Sunset, soaked in theatrical blood, but last night the Pussycat Doll was in more familiar, full-beam glamour territory.
Nicole accepted her award in a form-fitting glittering red gown, paired with an immaculate ruby-red lipstick, giving more than a nod to Jessica Rabbit. (Is it just us or are cartoons the new beauty inspiration to draw upon?)
It’s not all glamour and glitz, though. In a pre-awards Instagram post, Nicole shared a clip of herself doing her own hair dye, using a £12 black box dye. ‘My busy schedule doesn’t always leave time for a full salon visit, so ColorStrong came to the rescue with my perfect match, shade 1.0 Hawaii,’ she wrote in a partnership post with Clairol.
Although Colour Strong is formula that gives 100% coverage of greys, Nicole didn’t share whether she was covering up silver roots, but she did let fans into her rather unconventional hair dye method, which doubled as a sneaky bicep workout thanks to the addition of weighted bands on her wrists.
‘Keeps my color fresh and rich without the damage and yes, I got a little @bala workout in while it worked its magic. Multitasking never looked this glossy 💪🏽💁🏽♀️’ Work it, girl!
