She’s best known for playing a Downton Abbey downstairs maid, but Joanne Froggatt is looking every inch the lady of the manor right now. The actress, who plays Anna Bates in the hit TV show-turned-film series, has been showing off a fresh hair look – and it’s pure class.

Appearing at a press day for her latest project, Mobland, Joanne, 44, looked every bit the upstairs girl with a thoroughly modern makeover. Her hair is a beautifully understated, ‘old money’ blonde shade and has been styled in this season’s super-subtle ‘ghost waves’ look.

Her mocha-toned makeup, too, whispers of quiet luxury, with a soft, velvety lip, immaculately applied eyeliner, and a base that manages to look both flawless and exactly like real skin. The overall effect has more polish than Lord Grantham’s best silver on spring cleaning day.

There’s another high-society touch courtesy of her elegant nude manicure, which leans into the ‘natural nails but better’ trend. It’s all a far cry from her look as Downton’s Anna, who presumably works her poor cuticles ragged tending to Lady Mary.

The 'less is more' beauty look is paired with a chic, slightly risque outfit, with Joanne wearing burgundy leather trousers and sheer chiffon top worn over a strapless bra top. Definitely not an outfit that would ever get past Mr Carson’s critical eye.

Joanne’s Instagram followers were certainly full of approval for the sleek, modern look, though. Katie Piper and Helen Flanghan were among her celebrity admirers posting love-heart emojis, while one fan summed it up perfectly by commenting: ‘Exquisitely beautiful you’re growing more and more beautiful Jo 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥’

Although her makeup artist Alex Babsky hasn’t yet shared which products he used, he’s gone for a similar pared-back look at a second press day in Joanne's back-to-back schedule, this time for Downton itself. ‘Anna went upstairs…🏰’ he writes.

If you’re missing your Downton fix, there won’t be long to wait. The third Downton Abbey film is due to land in cinemas in September this year, and will see Anna returning alongside show stalwarts including Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern as Lord and Lady Grantham, and Michelle Dockery and Laura Carmichael as their daughters Mary and Edith.

There will be plenty of familiar downstairs faces too, including Jim Carter’s Mr Carson, Anna’s husband, Brendan “Mr Bates” Coyle, and of course Anna herself. As one excited fan posts on Joanne's makeup artist’s Instagram: ‘She looks incredible 😍😍 your work and the stylist work is perfect 🔥 can't wait to see my Anna again ❤️’
