Nicole Kidman famously started out her showbiz career as a redhead, but her latest look just turned up that shade to a whole new heat level. The actress looked almost unrecognisable with a red-hot hair makeover for a magazine shoot, wearing not one but two flame-haired new looks.
In a new cover interview for Allure, the Moulin Rouge star appears with two deep cherry-red hair makeovers, both more than a shade or two different from her most recent blonde look. The first is a blunt-cut bob falling to her collarbones, paired with a thick, full and choppy fringe that skims her eyelashes.
Nicole’s second look is even edgier. This time, the red is closer to a deep cherry cola shade and everything about the cut has been taken up a notch: the fringe sits mid-forehead and the ends of the bob fall around her cheekbones. It may well be Nicole’s favourite of the two makeovers, as it’s the style she’s chosen to post on her Instagram grid, thanking Allure for the cover shoot.
The comments section is already overheating with admiration: Michelle Pfeiffer firing out the 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 emojis, fellow Aussie actress Isabel Durant writing ‘Well holy smokes 🔥🙌❤️’ and Strictly’s favourite redhead Dianne Buswell adding hearts of appreciation.
The hair is the creation of Evanie Frausto, aided and abetted with wigs – a styling option Nicole has embraced with great enthusiasm of late. The actress appeared at the Met Gala with a pixie cut and, earlier this week, stepped out at the Cannes Film Festival with a sunset-blonde blowout, enhanced with a hairpiece. Unfortunately, the wig was slightly visible, which has led to some mean-spirited mockery, but Nicole has been more than happy to own her hair fakery.
Speaking to Channel Seven’s Sunrise, an unconcerned Nicole said: ‘As you know, I love changing my hair. For the Met Gala, everyone was questioning if I had chopped my hair off. But no, I didn’t.’
However, she's revealed she does have one huge regret about her hair. In a video interview to support her Allure cover shoot, Nicole looks back her most iconic on-screen moments and admits she wishes she’d never lost her natural corkscrew curls. As images from Days Of Thunder are shown, she says: ‘I loved my hair there. That is my natural hair. So for all the little girls out there, embrace the curl. Do not follow in my steps and straighten your hair.’
The Days of Thunder footage also makes her a little misty-eyed: ‘I look like my daughters,’ she says, referring to Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 14, the girls she shares with husband Keith Urban.
The Allure interview, which can be found in full here, is to promote the second season of Nine Perfect Strangers. The show features further strong wig work from Nicole, who looks striking in a geometric-cut ice-blonde bob. Nicole describes it as, 'Like boss, coming in!'
Clearly, there’s not a wig or a hair colour Nicole can’t turn into an iconic moment. Place your bets on the next shade now.
