We couldn't help but be starstruck when we spotted Jane Fonda out on the red carpet recently, as she stepped out with a stunning hairstyle oozing high-end glamour. Volume, volume, volume was the key to her 'big' hair transformation and we just had to find out how she achieved her impressive look.
While attending a recent fundraising gala in Los Angeles, Jane Fonda stole the show with her bouncy and voluminous hair, featuring soft yet structured waves which framed her face while creating body. Her look reminded us of Marilyn Monroe's iconic Hollywood hair, only this time in silver rather than platinum blonde.
Expert in all things hair and founder of Hadley Yates Salon, Hadley Yates said that the volume in Jane's style, "gives the hair a look of fullness, which gives the appearance of being in great condition and keeps it looking youthful."
To find out how Jane created her hairstyle to look this good at 87, we asked Hadley for some tips and tricks to recreate the impressive 'do yourself.
"This is a polished and glamorous Hollywood look so it's all about using good products to help recreate gloss and volume, as well as looking after your hair to keep it in the best condition," says Hadley.
So, what does she suggest?
"Firstly, to keep your hair looking polished and fresh, I would recommend getting a gloss in salon, or Redken ACG has an at-home gloss product which you can use in between salon appointments to give the hair more gloss and shine. Grey hair tends to be a little bit more frizzy and textured, so this will help make the hair look shiny," she advises.
Of course, the main thing we want to know is, what's the secret behind all the volume?
"Start with a good shampoo, condition and even mousse to help with volume, and the full range by Living Proof has great options for all of these. I'd then use heated or velcro rollers to get volume like this. Flex Pli by L’Oreal Professional is a thermo product which activates from heat, and it will help set the shape in nicely and give it some hold," Hadley says. If you have finer hair or have noticed thinning in later years, there are still plenty of ways to achieve the illusion of a fuller, thicker mane - including using a growth serum.
