Over the years, supporting our dogs’ — ages 14 and 4 — well-being and managing their various health concerns has led to a total of seven prescription medications. That’s not including their heartworm chews, monthly flea and tick elixirs, formulated kibble, and an ever-growing arsenal of OTC topicals and vitamins. From the general veterinarian to the doggy cardiologist to the allergist and internist — our fur babies have an entourage of medical specialists on rotation. At this point, we might as well add an acupuncturist and masseuse to the mix. So, when I heard Amazon was teaming up with Vetsource, a leading pet pharmacy, I had a fit of human zoomies. Now, they can have their meds and get them delivered straight to the doorstep, just like we do.
How It Works
Like anything else you’d scope on Amazon, just type your pet’s prescribed medication in the search bar in the Amazon Shopping App or on Amazon.com. After adding the Rx to your cart, you’ll be prompted to add the pet and prescribing vet’s details. Vetsource will then contact your vet for approval — and once OKed, eligible prescriptions are delivered between 2–6 days on average from one of Vetsource’s U.S. pharmacy locations. Active prescriptions can later be refilled by Vetsource without additional veterinarian contact.
Intuitive and Convenient
If you’re logging onto Amazon to re-up your retinol eye cream or grabbing painter’s tape for a DIY project, you can refill your pet’s Rx at the same time. In addition to everything you already shop via Amazon — including its robust set of pet products — hundreds of FDA-approved prescription pet medications are now part of that arsenal.
Gone are the days of frenzied pharmacy runs and 11th hour calls to the vet when you realize you’re out of a prescription. Shop here for pet Rx medications from Vetsource on Amazon.com.
