• Amazon Prime Day began yesterday, July 8 — and it will last four days until July 11.
  • Prime members can save on travel from Amtrak, rental cars (Budget and Avis), cruises (Royal Caribbean and Carnival) and select hotels.
  • Be sure to check each company's blackout dates before booking.

If you’re planning to travel this summer, Amazon has a little-known way to make it more budget-friendly. Prime members can save on transportation, hotels and cruise packages when booking through Amazon’s Prime Day travel deals page. (Still need to join? You can start with a 30-day free membership.)

Whether you’re planning a family cruise to a tropical paradise or craving a spontaneous train excursion, these savings are pretty significant. One caveat: Be sure to check each travel company’s terms and conditions, plus any blackout dates before booking your getaway.

Hotels

Amazon has partnered with select cities for hotel discounts when booking through Expedia:

  • Save 20% at participating San Diego hotels.
  • See the sights in Michigan and save up to 15% on your reservation.
  • Planning a beach-golf getaway? Take 20% off your stay in Myrtle Beach this summer.

Rental Cars

Book a rental car through Avis or Budget, and save 30% during Prime Day. As an additional bonus, both will give you an Amazon gift card for 15% of the value of your rental.

  • For Avis, the reservation is booked through Amazon.com, but your confirmation email will come from Avis, where you’ll add your payment information. You can also make any changes or add insurance through Avis.
  • For Budget, you’ll be taken to its website. Click the “Login with Amazon” button, and then book your car as usual. (Budget even has rentals available in Europe!)

Trains

Another way to take the scenic route, Amtrak covers most of the USA and includes meals and Wi-Fi. You can bring a bike, and small pets are allowed. Prime members who book by July 11 can save 20% off regular coach tickets for travel on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday between August 5 and November 13.

Cruises

If you’re looking to book an all-inclusive vacation package, check out these deals from two of the biggest cruise lines.

  • At Carnival, Amazon’s promotional cruise packages start at $124.50 per person, per day (assuming a two-person minimum). Travel from the East or West Coast to Mexico, the Bahamas and more.
  • On Royal Caribbean, kids ages 12 and under sail free and a second guest is 60% off with one full adult reservation. Visit the Caribbean, Mexico, the Greek Isles and more.
