For the same annual (or monthly) fee, you have access to some of the best travel hacks out there. For starters, when you book a trip through Walmart+ Travel, you get 2% back in Walmart Cash on your airfare, and 5% back on hotel reservations, car rentals and any other travel-related activities. You can then use that stockpile toward future purchases at Walmart — meaning your vacation actually helps pay for your everyday purchases. What is Walmart+ Travel?

Walmart+ Travel is one of the benefits of the Walmart+ membership program. As a member, you can book trips (from weekend getaways to all-inclusive international stays), rental cars and flights through the Walmart+ Travel site. In return, you get Walmart Cash, which you can then use on future purchases at Walmart or redeem for actual cash back in-store.

Walmart+ Travel (which is powered by Expedia) also saves you time by allowing you to do all of your trip-planning in one convenient, user-friendly place.

How Walmart+ Travel works

To get the benefits of the program, you must book your travel through Walmart+ Travel. Walmart Cash received from bookings will appear as “pending” in your account until you complete your trip, and become available to spend 30 days after.

Members can redeem their Walmart Cash — it doesn’t expire, so you can do this at any point — toward future Walmart purchases in-store and online, or for cash back in-store. When using it on a purchase, you simply scan an on-screen QR code at the register or self-checkout to connect to your account on your Walmart phone app. Once there, you tap “Use Walmart Cash” to apply your balance to your current purchase. If your Walmart Cash balance is less than your basket total, your full balance will be applied, and then the remaining amount can be paid with whatever other payment method you choose. Online purchases work similarly: At checkout you choose your Walmart Cash balance when asked to select a payment method.

To cash out in-store, you will need a minimum of $25 Walmart Cash. The maximum amount you can redeem for cash in a single day is $500, in a single week $1,000, and in a single month $2,000.

One other thing to note: Walmart Cash can’t be used to purchase alcoholic beverages, tobacco, firearm ammunition, lottery tickets or financial services; nor can it be used for membership fees, Walmart+ Travel bookings, gift cards or prescription products for humans or pets.

Once your trip is underway, you can keep the savings going. As noted, Walmart+ has a ton of benefits beyond the travel incentives to help make your journey both affordable and a breeze.
