When you think of Costco, you probably think of bulk-size groceries, viral backyard sheds, and unexpected home products (Pac-Man arcade games, anyone?) that you won't find shopping anywhere else. However, it’s also an amazing resource when it comes to Halloween decor. It's many interior designers' secret go-to spot when so many other seasonal stores are sold out of their stock.
To help you narrow down your picks as you browse the expansive store, we asked designers to spill their favorite Halloween must-haves from Costco. There’s something for everyone, whether your seasonal decorating style leans scary or classic.
Bulk Pumpkins
Costco is an excellent one-stop shop when it comes to stocking up on pumpkins for the stoop and beyond.
“I still enjoy the experience of picking out one or two with my young sons at the festive pumpkin patch, but I then tend to buy the bulk of the ones I'll use for decorating from Costco,” says designer Ashley Fiocco. The designer says that she displays her pumpkins in the front entryway, on the steps leading up to the house, on the fireplace hearth, and more. “I like to combine different colors, shapes, and sizes of pumpkins and arrange them in groupings of three or five,” she says.
Designer Meghan Jay takes a similar approach.
“Let's be honest, if I'm looking for pumpkins to decorate my front porch, I'm not just looking for one, I'm looking for a dozen—maybe more,” she says. “And I'm preferably seeking pumpkins in a variety of sizes, colors, and nubbiness. I never have any doubt that Costco will fit that brief!”
Seasonal Florals and Plants
Rather than heading to a specialty floral shop, Fiocco will turn to Costco when assembling fall bouquets.
“I like to also pick out various bouquets of fresh seasonal flowers, mix and match them all together, and create arrangements myself at home to put all around the house,” she says. “These, along with some lit scented candles, creates the perfect cozy, autumnal vibe to get the whole family excited for Halloween!”
Designer Andrea Sinkin will purchase mums at Costco that she will then weave into her outdoor Halloween decorations.
“They have massive ones for under $20 apiece, and they are huge and beautiful and so healthy,” she says. “I get four for the pots at the bottom of my stairs and two for the top, and then I fill it in with pumpkins.”
Yard Decor
As Taylor Fusco, the founder of Tay Fusco Design says, “It’s not all about aesthetics for us designers—as a mom, sometimes you need to just bring some of the holiday spirit and do it for the kids!”
She’s found that Costco’s oversized Halloween figures, like the seven-foot animated pumpkin scarecrow, make for excellent outdoor statement pieces that will thrill young ones. “Not only is it an easy way to bring some spirit to your trick-or-treaters but also it's such a fun piece of decor that your kids will have fun setting up with you,” she says.
Pumpkin Luminary Sets
Fusco is all for selecting scary Halloween decor but is partial to the more classic pieces that Costco offers as well.
“As a designer, I do also tend to look for aesthetic Halloween decor; that's when these pumpkin luminary sets come in,” she says. “We are big fans of the DIY bat trend, where you place them around your front door—these pumpkins not only create a glow on our front porch but also sit beautifully with the fun bats! Our kids love them!”
Jay is also partial to Costco's light-up pumpkins. “These feel at home with my copious mounds of pumpkins during the day, and then add that bit of sparkle at night,” she says.
