Andie MacDowell Reveals the Beauty and Skincare Products That Keep Her "Vibrant"
'The Way Home' actress even shared her secret to gorgeous natural hair.
In the Celebrity edition of What's in My Cart, stars reveal the everyday products they're shopping — complemented by expert insights from our editors and analysts when it's something we love too.
Andie MacDowell is celebrating four decades as a brand ambassador for L’Oréal Paris. With a wealth of experience under her belt, the mother of three, actress and model has so much to attribute to the brand’s iconic “because you’re worth it” slogan. “It is my own personal mantra,” Andie shares with Good Housekeeping. “Forty years is a long time working with a company. During that time, I've gone through some difficult times in my life. And I feel that having the opportunity to not only say I'm worth it for myself, but to help other people see their value is a wonderful way to lift yourself up.”
She also notes the inspiration that she draws from Ilon Specht, the advertising icon whose coining of the phrase is detailed in the film The Final Copy of Ilon Specht. “She changed universally how women saw themselves,” Andie says. “It makes [the slogan] that much more powerful, knowing where its beginnings came from. In a room full of men, that a 23-year-old woman is coming up with this, selling them the idea that women need to build their own value and know their own self worth, that it needs to be intrinsic for themselves, not for someone else.”
At 66 years old, The Way Home star maintains her vibrancy and fully embraces her next stage of life through self-care and self-empowerment – something she hopes to impart on her peers and generations to come. “There was a time when I was younger and I felt like older people were revered and looked up to,” she shares. “And I'm hoping that women can make the change for other women, recognizing that [aging is] your journey as well. Look up to these older women and tell them how beautiful they are. Invite them, keep them at the table.”
We’re so grateful to have Andie at our table and to be able to soak up her insight when it comes to the beauty of aging, as well as the wellness and beauty essentials she swears by. Keep reading to dive into all of her current must-haves.
