Chelsea Handler Calls This Drugstore Moisturizer Her "Antidote to Aging"

"The way to age gracefully is always to be hydrated and to be moisturized."

By

In the Celebrity edition of What's in My Cart, stars reveal the everyday products they're shopping โ€” complemented by expert insights from our editors and analysts when it's something we love too.

Chelsea Handler just turned 50, and she's ready to break a Guinness World Record. "This is going to be a big year. I'm 50, so I'm going to do some things I haven't done before," she tells Good Housekeeping. The comedian and television host is also an avid skier, and she's partnering with Gold Bond to attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the largest swimsuit ski run on March 14.

"I started skiing seriously about 10 years ago, and the number one issue with skiing so much is dry skin," Chelsea says. "I had to combat that immediately. I think the cold air is so good for you, but you don't want it to dry you out. You want it to enhance your performance and actually invigorate you. So then you get the best of both worlds."

In other record-setting news, Chelsea's seventh book, I'll Have What She's Having, is a number one New York Times bestseller. "I've gotten that call six times and it will never get old. I am so grateful. But to get to be number one that many times means that I'm good at it. And I can accept that at this age. I can take the compliment, be proud of myself and not be shy about it โ€” not be arrogant about it โ€” but be grateful that I've proven to myself time and time again that I'm reliable and I know what I'm doing," she explains.

Now that Chelsea's reached this milestone year, she's "looking forward to more of that confidence and reliability. I think when you get to this age, there's so much history of your own experience that you're good. I'm the one who got myself here and throughout all of these years, through the highs and the lows, I ended up on my feet. And I'm going to continue to do that throughout whatever other challenges I may face moving forward. So I'm pretty happy that I've got my back."

Luckily, Chelsea also has all of our backs, because she shared her favorite beauty, fitness and ski products. Keep reading for all of her essentials.

Gold Bond Healing Sensitive Daily Body & Face Lotion

Healing Sensitive Daily Body & Face Lotion

"I'm a big moisturizer. I moisturize, moisturize, moisturize, which is where Gold Bond comes in. I use their Sensitive Daily Body & Face Lotion," Chelsea says.

"I feel like the antidote to aging and the way to age gracefully is always to be hydrated and to be moisturized. Those are the two most important components."

The Gold Bond Age Renew Retinol Overnight Body & Face Lotion was tested by the Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty, Health & Sustainability Lab, and selected as the best drugstore retinol body lotion.

Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Hydrating & Brightening Concealer

Luminous Silk Hydrating & Brightening Concealer

"If I look tired, I'll use some Armani Luminous Silk Concealer for under my eyes because that brightens up the area. They have the nicest, creamiest, most blendable concealers for me. So I love that. And I also use that as a base," says Chelsea, who is an Armani Beauty Partner.

"But other than that, I try to be as makeup free as possible when I'm not in hair and makeup and on camera, because I want my skin to just breathe."

A similar product, the Armani Luminous Silk Perfect Natural Glow Foundation, was chosen by Good Housekeeping's Beauty Lab experts as the best overall foundation for dry skin. In Lab testing, "it earned a perfect score for having the smoothest texture, and got top scores for being easily blendable and providing smooth, nearly undetectable coverage."

Gold Bond Healing Hydrating Lotion

Healing Hydrating Lotion

In addition to using their face lotion, Chelsea says Gold Bond's Healing Hydrating Lotion "is the most important thing" to keep her skin looking and feeling great on and off the slopes.

"Every morning I put it all over my body. Every night before I go to bed, I put it on the bottoms of my feet, all over my legs, my elbows, all of the spots that can get dry. When you're going out into that weather, you really need to. It feels to me like a buffer between the elements and your skin," she explains.

Raspberry Salt Electrolyte Drink Mix (30 Count)

On the go, Chelsea says, "I always have my electrolytes. LMNT are my new favorite electrolytes, because they have so many flavors. My favorite is Raspberry Salt. I always wake up and have that. Sometimes I put my electrolytes in my iced tea, because water for me is always a challenge. I'm not the best water drinker," Chelsea admits.

LMNT is the Good Housekeeping Institute's pick for the best electrolyte drink powder for serious athletes. Due to its high sodium levels, our dietitians note that "it is best for serious athletes and those who are very heavy sweaters."

Chelsea's Workout Staple

Bala Bands Resistance Bands

Resistance Bands

"If I'm skiing, I always get up and stretch first for about 20 minutes. I'll do a Peloton app stretch for 20 minutes, but I always weight train. I have to stay strong. Especially after you hit 40, you've got to hit the weights," Chelsea emphasizes.

When she's traveling, she'll go to the hotel gym, but she does take a few fitness essentials with her. "I always take bands so that I can do tricep and bicep stuff. You can always work out with those. They're also great for stretching."

While Chelsea didn't name a specific brand, these Bala Bands were chosen as the best fabric resistance bands according to the Good Housekeeping Institute's testing. With three resistance levels to increase as you grow stronger, our fitness experts appreciated the durable fabric and noted that it stayed put better than some of the latex and tube resistance band options.

"I always bring a Pilates ring with me [when I travel]. I love to do my inner thigh workouts every morning. I do 200 inner thigh presses, butt lifts, all that. And it's also good for the arms. The ring can be used for a lot of things."

Chelsea didn't specify a brand, but this Gaiam Pilates Ring is the number one bestseller on Amazon, boasting a 4.5/5 star average rating from over 2,200 customers.
