If you remember anything about the first two seasons of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, you'd know it takes place in the Second Age of Middle-earth, when the 19 rings were forged and given to elves, dwarves and humans.
Wait, how many rings now? Wasn't it just the One Ring to Rule Them All? Time for a J.R.R. Tolkien Middle-earth refresher course!
While you could read the entire Lord of the Rings book series, The Hobbit novel and all those appendices, on which The Rings of Power and the animated The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim are based, it might be faster just to watch all the movies and series. If you're looking to re-immerse yourself in the lore of the world, the films are an excellent way to jog your memory (or introduce you for the first time). All of them can be found on Max if you subscribe. Otherwise it's off to rent them at Amazon Prime Video, where The Rings of Power lives.
When you go there, here's how to watch all the The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies in order. Lots of filmmakers have adapted Tolkien's work over the years (shout out to the trippy, 1978 animated Ralph Bakshi Lord of the Rings), so we're just focusing on everything that's come out since 2001, when director Peter Jackson first took the helm (no Helm's Deep puns intended). They're listed by the dates of their release, but if you want to watch the events in the order in which they happened, there's a chronological order at the end. They should be able to tide you over until The Hunt for Gollum comes out in 2027
