Some of the most talented stars that grace the big screen are Latinas. Who could forget America Ferrera’s most-talked-about monologues in Barbie or Rita Moreno’s Oscar-winning moment that made history as the first Hispanic woman to win? Their talents are clearly limitless, and Hollywood wouldn’t be the same without them. Most of all, their roles as directors and appearances in lead roles provide a refreshing perspective to the film and TV industry. While we recognize their many accomplishments in the industry, the Latinx community still only makes up 8.9% of overall casting diversity, according to UCLA’s 2024 Hollywood Diversity report.

When we see these Latina actresses on the screen, they represent our community and tell our stories. For example, Jennifer Lopez acted and sang as the beloved Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla while Julissa Calderon and Annie Gonzalez depict the realities of gentrification of the Latinx community in the show Gentefied. Even as an underrepresented group in the film industry, these Latina actresses have made countless waves in Hollywood with their talents and voices. And it doesn’t stop there. Some of these Latina actresses we highlight on this list are even film directors, such as Eva Longoria. Recently, she directed the film Flamin’ Hot which illustrates the inspiring story of Richard Montañez who disrupted the food industry. These Latina actresses are not only making history but paving the way for young girls and showing them a world of possibilities.

While it would be impossible to include every wonderful Latina actress on this list, we hope that this roundup gives you a glimpse of some of their many accolades and achievements in the entertainment industry.
