When The Handmaid's Tale first was published by Margaret Atwood in 1985, no one would've thought it would eventually become a worldwide phenomenon among readers. Even more so, they probably never thought they'd get the chance to see the book be brought to life in a smash-hit TV series on Hulu.
Set in a dystopian society in the borders of the United States, the government of Gilead is trying to repopulate after the results of disease and environmental pollution. This leads to a world where women are forced into a limited amount of roles, including being enslaved and forced to become "Handmaids" and help bring into the world a new generation. What's more, Elisabeth Moss' portrayal of lead character Offred-turned-June Osborne has captured audiences' attentions since The Handmaid's Tale began in 2017 ... and there's a spinoff series called The Testaments coming to TV screens soon, too.
But as The Handmaid's Tale begins airing its sixth and final season on April 8, 2025, fans will likely want something else to watch after the series concludes on Hulu. We've rounded up the best TV shows like The Handmaids's Tale, so fans can find their next obsession.

Paradise

Set across two different timelines, Yellowjackets explores the lives of a high school soccer team crashing into the Canadian wilderness. Stuck with no food or water, the group participates in things they never thought they'd do ... and they eventually have to deal with the results of those decisions three decades later as adults.
Silo
Based on a trilogy of novels by Hugh Howey, this Apple TV+ hit is set in a dystopian world where an entire community exists under 144 levels of underground silos. Upholding regulations that a body of government officials have instilled to protect the citizens, one woman discovers a secret that could send everything they've worked hard for crashing down.
Bates Motel
Based on the fictional world originally seen in Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, this show ran for five seasons and chose to tell the events leading up to Norman Bates' demise. Set in a modern world, folks got to see how Norman (played by Freddie Highmore) got to be the villain he was ... and those who helped shape him along the way.

Nine Perfect Strangers
Based on the book by Liane Moriarty, Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy lead a cast that follows nine travelers taking a respite at a boutique health and wellness resort. But while the resort's director wants to help the group relax and take their minds off of the outside world, those working inside the hotel have a sinister plot no one will expect.
By the way, a second season of the show is coming to Hulu on May 21, 2025.
The Last of Us
Bringing the hit video game series to life, The Last of Us follows a post-apocalyptic world dealing with a pandemic that causes zombie-like creatures to emerge when infected by a mass fungus. As these individuals wreak havoc on society, a smuggler (played by Pedro Pascal) is tasked with a surprise mission. He must escort an immune teen (played by Bella Ramsey) across the U.S. to safety.
The second season of The Last of Us premieres on HBO and Max on April 13, 2025, so now is the perfect time to start watching.
Alias Grace
The same year The Handmaid's Tale premiered on Hulu, Netflix aired an original limited series based on another book by Margaret Atwood. This riveting period piece follows a woman accused of murder in Canada in the 19th century.
Black Mirror
