• Good Witch aired on Hallmark for seven seasons after originally starting out as a TV movie.
  • The show was cancelled by Hallmark back in July 2021.
  • The show's star Catherine Bell had thoughts on whether a reboot is in the works.

Back in 2008, fans were introduced to the world of Good Witch on the Hallmark Channel.

Centering around the world of Cassandra "Cassie" Nightingale (Catherine Bell), viewers loved seeing the premise of a "good witch" who uses her skills to bring some positivity to those who surround her. And what was meant to only be just one TV film actually spanned multiple movies and a hit drama series to boot!

With so many years of fans loving Good Witch on Hallmark, it came as a surprise to many when the network decided to cancel the show after seven seasons in July 2021. So, why was Good Witch cancelled on Hallmark? Well, we may have some ideas behind the surprise change ... and maybe some thoughts about how folks could return to Middleton sooner than they think.

Why was Good Witch cancelled on Hallmark?

When it comes to the reason behind why Good Witch was cancelled by Hallmark, the network never dropped an official statement behind the axing. But at the time, a press release for the show's final episode had some remarks about the legacy the show left on fans.

"Good Witch has enchanted viewers for over a decade with eight original movies, in addition to the seven-season series," said Randy Pope, SVP, programming & development, at the time. "We thank our leads whose chemistry and talent made ‘Good Witch’ such a beloved and uniquely special viewing experience: Catherine Bell, who has brought the inimitable Cassie Nightingale to life for 13 years, and James Denton, who as Dr. Sam Radford has added so much charm and humor to the series. We also extend our gratitude and thanks to the entire cast and crew for their dedication and hard work."

But that's not all. Shortly after the news broke at the time, Catherine went on Instagram to relay her thoughts about Good Witch not returning to TV.

"I am so grateful for 7 seasons ... and 13 years (of movies) of being a part of Good Witch, working with the KINDEST and most talented, cast & crew, producers, network! It has always felt like family ❤️," she wrote on Instagram in July 2021. "I know we will all miss the Good Witch and all the amazing chraacters and stories. But I am definitely smiling because it happened. With love, respect and so much gratitude, CB ❤️."

Now, is there ever a chance for Good Witch to get a reboot of some sort in the future? Based on Catherine's comments back in December 2024, there's always a place for them in Middleton!

"I really miss doing the show. I miss it," Catherine said during the 2024 Christmas Con at the time, per People. "I miss the character. I miss the magic. I think we all were a bit surprised when it ended because we didn't get the ending we would've wanted ... We have not given up trying to get a movie made."
