Ryan Seacrest is getting emotional about a health crisis affecting his family.
The longtime American Idol host has been open about sharing moments with his loved ones, which include his mom Constance, his dad Gary and his sister Meredith. While Ryan adores sharing the good times with his followers, he revealed during a recent episode of his On Air With Ryan Seacrest radio show that Gary has been privately undergoing treatment for prostate cancer for a few years. And despite this being something Ryan kept to himself for some time, he explained how watching Gary go through this has affected his entire family over the last few months.
"I haven't shared this on air because it has been very private for me and my family, as it was something that was extremely hard to see with my father," he explained in a clip posted on Instagram on July 21. "My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer years ago and started his treatment ... It didn't go well for him, and he caught pneumonia. I was on an American Idol show live during last season, and my sister called me and she said, 'Dad is in the ICU — how fast can you get here?' I finished the show, I said good night, I went to the airport immediately, got on a flight and got to Atlanta overnight."
As the Wheel of Fortune host continued to detail Gary's lengthy health battle, Ryan acknowledged there has been some good news surrounding this. While Gary still has a ways to go in fighting prostate cancer, he's still able to have some special moments with his wife.
"[My dad] didn't leave his seat or a hospital or a home for four and a half months," Ryan added in tears. "Last night, I got the most powerful, good, happy picture from my dad and my mother. They went to a beach to sit outside. They just wanted to look at the water ... But I saw him smile. I saw my mom smile. They've been married for over 55 years, and they've got each other. His pneumonia is gone, but his cancer is not ... The treatments are tough, but I know he's gonna get through this."
When fans learned of what's been going on in Ryan's family, they immediately rallied around him in support.
"Omg! So sorry to hear, stay strong Ryan and I wish your dad a full recovery! ❤️🙏🫂," one person wrote in the comments. "You are precious for being open and honest. So many people are going through this," another noted. "Ryan you are such an amazing human with a heart of gold. Wishing you and your family happiness and comfort! 🙏🏼❤️," a different follower added.
We're sending love and support to Ryan and his family.
