Joanna and Chip Gaines's family just got a little bit bigger. The Magnolia mogul recently revealed on Instagram that her family embarked on an old-school road trip—and ended up getting a dog in the process.
"Chip asked the kids to go on a road trip with him for Father's Day," Joanna explains in her Instagram reel's caption. "Each kid got to pick where they wanted to go, and Crew chose Oklahoma first bc he wanted to see a tornado and red dirt." From there, the family made pit stops in New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona—and managed to capture it all on camera. Joanna reveals that her Reel is entirely made of footage her daughter recorded during their travels. From simple shots of small towns to epic cliff jumps, it looks like they had a blast.
However, the trip got really interesting when the family arrived in Marfa, Texas. "They decided to surprise mom and get another puppy," Joanna reveals. "We named her Marfa." Fittingly, Marfa made an adorable cameo at the end of the video—and we totally get why it was love at first bark.
Not only did many of Joanna's 13.8 million Instagram followers welcome Marfa into the fold with open arms, but they also praised the entire trip. "Love this," one Instagrammer wrote. "Love Chip wanting to spend time with the kids by himself." "Love this and I think it’s important for families to do things like this even when everyone gets older," another commented. "Memories that will last a lifetime." A third simply said, "Making great memories." Turns out, Joanna couldn't agree more. "Chip, you're such a fun dad," she wrote at the end of her caption. "They'll never forget this trip!"
While this isn't the first dog Joanna and Chip have added to the crew—the family owned at least six previously—we do think this is an opportune time for Magnolia to debut a pet collection. In the meantime, the Gaines family can enjoy these fierce (and fashionable!) finds.
