- The View co-host Sara Haines got emotional talking about the impact of My Mom Jayne.
Sara Haines is known to get emotional during conversations on The View — and her latest heartfelt moment on the air came for a very specific reason.
On the June 26 taping of the ABC daytime series, Sara, Joy Behar, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin welcomed Law and Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay as a guest on the show. She was there to promote her documentary My Mom Jayne (streaming now on HBO Max), where she directed an intimate story about her late mother Jayne Mansfield. While the interview was primarily centered around Mariska's process in creating the project, Sara unintentionally took the conversation in a different direction. As she teared up on camera, she couldn't help but praise Mariska for the job she did in bringing My Mom Jayne to life.
"Before I ask your question, I just have to say this was one of the most life-changing documentaries I have ever watched," Sara told Mariska in a clip posted on Instagram. "I will capture it like this. Anyone that watches this will fall in love with you and your family. They will come to see who all those family members are, and they're amazing."
"The directing ability of this is a fascinating," Sara added. "So many people try to direct, and that is the one thing that got me, was the way you unfolded this very complicated life story. Third, everyone will see themselves in this documentary ... not one visual in this documentary will not make you cry. When you see the way this woman looked at her kids, I thought, 'God, I hope someone looks at me like that.'"
While Mariska watched Sara tear up about My Mom Jayne, the actress couldn't stop her own emotions coming out either. As a result, she had to tell Sara why her comments held so much weight amid promoting a movie that's so personal.
"Can I say one thing to you?" Mariska responded. "That is so deeply meaningful to me, because you would think, Oh, it's a story about a Hollywood icon and living in the '50s. You'd think it's such a specific story. What I hope this movie provides is that out of the personal comes the universal. Even though it's my mother's story and then it segues into my story, it's really a family story."
As viewers watched Sara and Mariska's heartfelt interaction play out on The View, they too had similar thoughts to share about My Mom Jayne.
"I agree @sarahaines I cried like a baby. It’s so powerful," one person wrote in the comments. "She nailed the review. Her tears, her thought and her revelations are precisely how I too felt. And still crying. ❤️❤️❤️," another agreed. "You brought tears to my eyes too now can't wait to see the movie ❤️," a different follower added.
