It might be the year 2025, but by the looks of current fashion and beauty trends, you might think we’re back in the ‘90s. And now, not only are our wardrobes getting a blast from the past, but our pantries are, too!
Clearly Canadian—the label behind some of the most iconic (and nostalgic) sparkling waters of all time—just dropped its first advertising campaign since 1991. And who better to illustrate the news that Clearly Canadian Is Back than Canadian country singer, Shania Twain?
The 59-year-old singer shared the minute-long ad on Instagram, much to fans' enjoyment. For 60 seconds, she spies, steals, runs, and tumbles through the Canadian wilderness, all in pursuit of getting her hands back on her favorite beverage.
“For years I've been searching… finally, I found it,” Shania said at the beginning of the bit while spying on resting hikers with a pair of binoculars. When she lands on their Clearly Canadian-packed cooler, she rolls into action, swiping the cooler from the hikers and running away with it, doing backflips off mountains, until she’s able to uncap a bottle and take a sip for herself.
“Still the one,” she says while nodding in satisfaction—a slick reference to her 1997 hit, “You're Still The One.”
A goofy ad? 100 percent. A well-received one? You bet!
“This fills my Vancouver heart to the brim,” Ryan Reynolds, whose Maximum Effort created the spot, commented on her post. “Literally LOVE! This is hilarious and perfect,” singer JoJo exclaimed. “This is just the best,” singer Lindsay Ell agreed. “Shania living her Lara Croft fantasy, here for this,” a fan chimed in. “Best campaign I have seen in a LONG time,” someone else wrote, accompanied by a series of laughing emojis.
Silly as the commercial is, Shania had the absolute best time creating it.
“I have very clear memories of Clearly Canadian growing up here,” she said in a release. “When the team reached out, I was so flattered and the idea was awesome!”
“As a proud Canadian, the fact that it’s natural spring water and bottled right here is perfect—it’s pure nostalgia in a bottle! Getting to shoot this in the Canadian outdoors, fighting to do my own stunts (I think I can still tumble!), and sampling all the new flavors hardly felt like work. The Clearly Canadian range is so refreshing, and I can enjoy it at home and on the road. Getting to be in my own adventure movie for the day was pretty great.”
Looking to try (or revisit) the brand for yourself? Clearly Canadian is now stocked nationwide. Just look for the blue glass bottles!
