Mariska Hargitay is getting sentimental about her late mother Jayne Mansfield, sharing her thoughts on how her mom would feel about her latest venture.

On June 27, fans of the Law and Order: SVU star got to see her flex her directing chops with the debut of her new documentary My Mom Jayne (out now on HBO Max). Exploring the life of the late actress ahead of her tragic death at age 34 in a car crash, Mariska (who was 3 years old when her mom died) also stars in the film as she seeks to discover things she never knew about her mother.

As part of the movie's promotion, Mariska talked about the process of filming My Mom Jayne in an interview on the Today show. When Craig Melvin asked Mariska what she thinks Jayne would say about the documentary, Mariska had an emotional response that left Craig and Savannah Guthrie in their feelings.

"I think she would be really happy," Mariska stated in a clip posted on Instagram. "Talk about being seen, right? Talk about being seen for all her facets and not just one way. I think she'd be really happy that we got to make a movie together."

When fans on social media saw Mariska give her take on how Jayne may have felt about the documentary, many shared their own feelings about watching My Mom Jayne.

"I was completely blown away. I had no idea Jayne was so talented. Mariska did an amazing job," one person wrote in the comments. "My favorite documentary ever. It was so powerful and moving. I was so excited to see it and it blew me away," another agreed. "Wonderful documentary. Mariska did incredible work on it. I think her mom would be proud 🔥❤️," a different follower added.

What's more, Mariska is clearly proud to tell her mom's story in this unique way, as she went on Instagram to thank everyone for embarking on this emotional journey with her as they watch My Mom Jayne.

"I can’t tell you how excited I am to share My Mom Jayne with you tonight," she wrote on Instagram on June 27. "Thank you for sharing in this moment with me — and with my mom. I hope this film about love, longing, family and healing will speak to your heart. I’m so honored to be able to tell this story. 💕."
