It's official, The Pitt fans: We're heading back to the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital for more time in the ER.
When The Pitt first premiered on HBO Max back in January, no one would've expected a TV show about attendees working a grueling 15-hour hospital shift would garner so much attention. But with former ER star Noah Wyle portraying Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch and surrounded by an incredible ensemble cast, the show drew people in and developed a following that had folks wanting another season right away.
Well, HBO Max answered viewers' wishes when the network announced back in February that The Pitt season 2 was officially in the works. But that's not all. Thanks to a surprise announcement on Instagram on June 16, folks learned the show is officially filming new episodes that are slated to drop in January 2026.
"We're so back," the caption read alongside a video showing a behind-the-scenes look at filming The Pitt. "Season 2 of #ThePitt has begun filming. Stream Season 1 now on Max."
As soon as fans caught on to the fact The Pitt season 2 was filming an all-new installment, they immediately voiced their excitement on social media.
"YASSSSSS YASSSSS YASSSSS!! Please have at least 10 seasons ❤️," one person begged in the comments. "Just made my day," another wrote. "I’m so happy there’s gonna be a second season!" a different follower added.
Well, we're certainly ready to catch up with all the folks working in the Pitt! And while details on what's to come in season 2 are still under wraps, it seems like the folks at HBO Max are elated that fans gravitated toward the show so quickly.
"It's been a thrill to watch audiences embrace The Pitt as an update to procedural storytelling with a cast who authentically embody the heroics of doctors and nurses on shift in a 2025 emergency room," said Sarah Aubrey, Head of Max Original Programming in an official statement back in February. "Our collaboration with John Wells, R. Scott Gemmill, Noah Wyle and Warner Bros. Television has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and we are excited to continue down this path with another season."
Congrats, and we're so ready to tune in!
