America's Got Talent just kicked off season 20, and we're already blown away by the talent displayed on our TVs!
The premiere episode of the NBC series aired on May 27, and folks met a 23-year-old musician named Jourdan Blue. A New Orleans street performer trying to make ends meet for his girlfriend and young son, he came on the show to create a better life than the tough road he's endured until now.
With judges Simon Cowell, Sofía Vergara, Mel B and Howie Mandel to impress, Jourdan shocked the audience in-person and at home with a heartbreaking rendition of The Script's "Breakeven." As everyone was left speechless, his performance had everyone — including the judges — giving him a standing ovation. What's more, Howie had something to share with Jourdan that would change his life.
"You know, this is season 20. I've seen dreams come true right where you're standing," he stated before giving Jourdan the coveted Golden Buzzer (advancing him to the Live Show portion of the competition). "Lives change right where you're standing. And that stage and that moment can take you anywhere. This is just the beginning of where you can go. You, young man, are going to the Live Shows."
But that's not all. As Howie joined Jourdan on stage, he had one more piece of feedback to give.
"I think you’re a star," he added. "I think your name is going to be on the lips of everybody watching this across the globe."
When fans saw Jourdan's incredible performance, they all rushed to the comments to voice their agreement with Howie's sentiments.
"This might be the best singer I’ve heard in the last 20 years. Rare talent is an understatement!" one person wrote. "I was sobbing when he got that golden buzzer. I think he’s going to be a friggen rockstar. Life’s about to get even better. What a kind soul," another declared. "Howie made the right choice! I’m so proud of you Jourdan! 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙," a different viewer added.
Well, isn't this a phenomenal kickoff to AGT season 20? We can only imagine what Jourdan will do next, and we can't wait to see what other great acts are in store for us this summer.
