Spring has sprung, and Joanna Gaines is cherishing every last petal. Not only did the Fixer Upper star recently launch a seed bar at her Magnolia Market in Waco, Texas, but she's also sharing her floral know-how with her fans. Gaines recently appeared on GMA to promote her upcoming show, Mini Reni, which highlights a series of tiny yet thoughtful home transformations. During the segment, Gaines gave fans an intimate look at her herbarium and "test garden," where she experiments with different plants.
Turns out, she gets a lot of design inspiration from her garden. "It's giving me permission to play with color [and] to add those different layers of texture," she shares. And play she did! Later in the interview, Gaines and GMA lifestyle contributor Lori Bergamotto used the garden's fresh blooms to make flower presses. "It's funny because in life, I'm a minimalist," Gaines said of her extravagant arrangement. "But with this, I'm a maximalist."
And would any floral foray be complete without a fresh bouquet? Definitely not, which is why Gaines shared her top trick to creating a lush floral arrangement at home: varied stem lengths. "I like to think about how it's growing in the garden," she says. "I don't want everything to be the same height." While Gaines grabs blooms from her garden, she also says store-bought is fine.
Regardless of where you source your petals from, one thing's for sure: If you want to tell someone how much you care about them, say it with flowers. "My favorite gift is a bouquet of flowers or a note," she shares. "It's something that simple that I think goes a long way." This Mother's Day, here's hoping Gaines's four children are taking note.
