Princess Charlotte is celebrating her 10th birthday today!
In what has become a family tradition, Prince William and Kate Middleton shared a new photo of their only daughter to social media on Friday, May 2, with the succinct caption, “Happy 10th Birthday Princess Charlotte! ❤.” The young princess is pictured enjoying an outdoor excursion with a camouflage jacket and a blue backpack.
In years past, Kensington Palace has released new photos of the children ahead of their birthdays, providing it to the press in advance. Last year, however, during Kate’s ongoing treatment for an undisclosed cancer, the Prince and Princess of Wales started to share their children's birthday photos directly to their social media accounts—starting with Prince Louis's 6th birthday—a practice they have since continued.
An avid photographer, Kate Middleton has taken many of the birthday portraits of her three children over the years. While recent portraits were taken by other photographers, the family has resumed its birthday tradition this year, with the photo credited to The Princess of Wales.
Princess Charlotte’s younger brother, Prince Louis, recently celebrated his 7th birthday on April 23. Their older brother, Prince George, will turn 12 on July 22.
