Superhero movies are officially back — and this time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is bringing an epic gang back together. Well, sort of.
More than a decade after Avengers first debuted at the box office, folks fell in love with the concept of a ragtag group of individuals coming together to save the world. Well, this time the MCU is leaning into a different group of folks with the release of their brand-new movie Thunderbolts*. Just like previous movies, a group of people are banding together to save the world. Except, there's one small caveat — most of the people featured in Thunderbolts* would be more akin to disrupting humanity rather than saving it.
With an ensemble cast that features Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour) and more, Thunderbolts* sees some of the MCU's most surprising characters all getting caught in a deadly trap set by the evil CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Initially intended to have a catastrophic confrontation with one another, the group of misfits all realize Valentina's plan and come to a major realization. They have to band together in order to take the politician down — by all means necessary.

But as most Disney (and Marvel) movies tend to drop on the streamer around three months after their box office debut, it's likely fans will get the chance to see Thunderbolts* on Disney+ in early August 2025.
