The third episode of Rock the Block did not disappoint. The teams of veterans and rookies were faced with putting their own spin on the main suite. The expansive spaces include the primary bedroom, bath, closet, and balcony. The awkward layout caused some extra challenges, but the designers were able to put together elevated spaces with plenty of drool-worthy touches. Divided by Design stars Ray and Eilyn Jimenez joined the episode to judge their work. Here's what happened...
Alison Victoria and Michel Smith Boyd
The designers once again went into the challenge with confidence. After all, they've both designed some very memorable (and winning) primary bathrooms in past seasons of the series. This time, they brought their refined rustic vibes to the master suite. They chose to rearrange the layout to give more space to the closet, and added a freestanding tub and green tile to echo their kitchen design. They placed the bed on an elevated platform and added French doors to the balcony. Alison said they're a "force to be reckoned with." The judges praised the design but found the layout to be a bit awkward.
Cole and Chelsea DeBoer
The couple was looking to build on their success from the previous episode with their cowboy contemporary space. They played it a bit safer and didn't make any major changes to the layout, but they added custom details like arched doorways with tambour paneling. They splurged on some more high-end finishes and added a sauna, vanity in the closet, pergola on the balcony, and washer/dryer. Ray and Eilyn declared their bedroom to be their favorite and loved the extra attention they gave to the balcony.
Jonathan and Jordan Knight
The brothers stepped up their game this week after losing out on last week's challenge (that swan faucet!). They paid extra attention to the bathroom and added custom tile, a copper tub, and double vanity. Jonathan remembered he got dinged for his previous Rock the Block closet, so they switched up the layout to give it more space and custom details. Plus, the installed a fireplace and doors to the balcony, which they lined with glass panels instead of traditional railings. They added paneling above the bed that extended to the ceiling—a detail the judges didn't love about their modern farmhouse design.
Tristyn and Kamohai Kalama
The Renovation Aloha stars flipped the layout to take advantage of the views in their moody modern space. They added a built-in sauna, a double-sided fireplace, and a washer/dryer in the closet. The couple installed a custom headboard and made economical choices like large-scale tile in the bathroom. Ray and Eilyn liked the overall design and flow of the space but criticized details like the exposed LED lighting.
After deliberating, Ray and Eilyn determined Jonathan and Jordan to be the winners. They explained that their luxurious bathroom put them over the top. HGTV shared a clip of the episode on social media, and fans started sounding off.
- "Not a huge fan of a tub in the middle of the bathroom. Seems to feel in the way not to mention lack of privacy!"
- "This was the worst win I’ve seen yet! So disappointing 😢 The rookies put in saunas and washer and dryers, that brings added value. Picking a win because the bathroom looked nice isn’t value that’s just design. Make it make sense!!"
- "I love them so much, but in my opinion they picked the wrong winners. Doesn’t seem like something they would do, so I wonder if they are swayed to pick a team to even the wins out?"
What did you think of the episode? Did Jon and Jordan deserve this win?
