Embracing a new color palette for spring always feels like a good idea. Everyone is ready for a little renewal, or a little change after the long, dark winter. But change can be tough, too. No one wants to commit to a new color palette that happens to be trending right this minute, only to find that trends change and suddenly your freshly painted room looks dated and tired.

Fortunately for us all, designer Nate Berkus just revealed his number-one color palette tip to freshen up a space in a way that feels somehow new and familiar, all at once.

Berkus took to Instagram on Tuesday to share his take on what he called a "classic" color palette: some warm, soft pinks. "A gentle nod to color—soft pinks bring a layer of warmth and charm to this @nateberkusassociates bedroom. Proof that pink can be classic, too," he wrote in the caption. The Instagram post included three photos of a bedroom and ensuite bath that had recently been transformed with layers of soft pink. The bedroom featured a pink floral-patterned wallpaper and a pink accent chair under a window. The ensuite bath was livened up with beautiful soft rose-colored tiles in the shower and along the surrounding walls with gold-accented hardware to bring out the warmth of the tones. As one social media user noted, this soft pink feels like "a new neutral" we can get behind.

As a designer, Berkus has long been known for his classic, timeless taste. It's something that he developed in his early childhood as a big fan of hanging out in antique stores. In fact, this could be an understatement. Berkus explained earlier this month during a visit to Mantiques Modern that he loved visiting antique stores with his mom so much, "I'd have to go to the front desk and ask for the key. Sometimes I'd just ask if I could have my own key."

Berkus's affinity for such an early 20th-century color palette of soft pink with gold accents really harkens back to his love of all things classic and antique. After all, the designer is all about creating spaces that stand the test of time, instead of looking dated within the next decade or so.

Perhaps it's time to embrace some softness after a long, hard winter with pale neutral pink.
