This story contains major spoilers from the April 17 episode of 9-1-1 season 8.

9-1-1 season 8 dropped a huge bombshell, and we're still reeling from what we watched.

We're down to the final episodes of the ABC drama's current season, and the April 17 installment left everyone shocked by the demise of Bobby Nash (Peter Krause). The captain of the 118 heroically saved his team's lives (particularly Howard "Chimney" Han [Kenneth Choi]) when they were trapped in a hazardous bio lab ... while also sacrificing his own in the process. In the end, Bobby died from being exposed to the fatal virus released into the lab ... and the loss is sure to leave an emotional hole for both the characters and the viewers watching the drama play out at home.

Now, with the most recent episode ending on such a sad note, fans need to know what happens next. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait a bit longer, because there is no new episode of 9-1-1 season 8 tonight, April 24.

When does 9-1-1 season 8 return with new episodes?

It's time to mark your calendars. 9-1-1 season 8 will return with new episodes on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Why isn't 9-1-1 on tonight?

As for the reason why 9-1-1 won't be airing a new episode tonight, it's due to the fact the show is on hiatus for a week. And given how heavy the previous 9-1-1 episode was for fans, it made sense for the show to give viewers some breathing room before a new episode drops on ABC.

"No one talk to me," read the Instagram caption when the show revealed the hiatus on April 17. "#911onABC will be back with an all-new episode on Thursday, May 1."

So, what can fans expect from 9-1-1 now that the patriarch of the 118 is gone? Well, in a new promo for the upcoming installment (titled "The Last Alarm"), viewers will get to see the rest of Bobby's team mourn his loss when they attend his funeral. What's more, viewers will get to see how Athena and Buck grieve being the last ones to see Bobby alive.

Well, we're certainly in for an emotional rollercoaster next week!
