The school year is going to be over very soon, but it looks like Abbott Elementary let out for the summer a little earlier than folks expected.
The season 4 finale of the hit ABC sitcom aired on April 16, and boy did it leave us in our feels. With love finally blossoming for both Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory Eddie (Tyler James Williams), we now get to see Ava Coleman (Janelle James) get some romance in her life as well! And this is all after she's fired — and then re-hired — from her job as the school principal.
And as for the rest of the Abbott Elementary teachers .... well, there's a lot in store for them, too. With Barbara Howard (Sheryl Lee Ralph) learning she'll be a grandma, Melissa Schemmenti (Lisa Ann Walter) continuing her love story with a firefighter and Jacob Hill (Chris Perfetti) finally being OK as a single man, there's definitely a lot more to explore with these fine folks from Philadelphia.
Now, is there a chance for viewers to see more episodes of Abbott Elementary? ABC gave the answer some time ago ... and fans are going to be stoked about this.
Will there be a season 5 of Abbott Elementary?
Halfway through Abbott Elementary airing season 4 on ABC, the network surprised fans with the ultimate news in January 2025. Posting a sweet Instagram video of the actors who play the students featured on the show, fans learned Abbott Elementary would return for season 5.
"Season 5, here we come! 🫡," the caption read on January 21. "Join your favorite staff and students for more #AbbottElementary on ABC and stream on Hulu."
Upon seeing ABC's major news for Abbott Elementary, viewers couldn't hold back their excitement for the show's future season 5.
"As the show’s biggest fan, this is the best news ever. Congratulations and YESSSSS LETS GOOOOO!!! 🎉❤️🎉❤️," one person shouted in the comments. "This made my day so happy omg," another declared. "I hope this show goes on forever 😭😭😭 i love abbott so much!!!!" a different fan exclaimed.
What's more, Quinta Brunson (who created the show and stars as Janine Teagues) had to comment on Abbott Elementary's major news with a simple yet effective response.

Additionally, after first getting introduced in the beginning of season 4, it's highly likely Matthew Law will return as IT representative turned Ava's boyfriend O'Shon in Abbott Elementary season 5. And given how O'Shon and Ava are seemingly in a good place in the season 4 finale, Quinta touched on the couple's future when speaking with Variety in April 2025.
"You definitely can expect to see more of O’Shon," she told the outlet. "Matthew Law is wonderful, and gels so well with our cast. That’s really important to us; we love people who become part of the family really easily ... it was great to bring him into this world and for him to become such a crowd favorite."
What's more, Quinta spoke out on Janine and Gregory's relationship and how meeting Gregory's dad Martin (Orlando Jones) when he volunteers to chaperone Abbott's trip to the Please Touch Museum may affect their romance going forward.
"I think it’s something many people express in passing, in a funny way, about their parents being nicer to their partner," she added. "But we wanted to go deeper there ... It’s important for him to know that Janine unlocks something in him. Maybe we don’t always know that while it’s happening, so hearing it from someone, especially a parent, makes you appreciate your relationship more, and I feel like Gregory appreciates his relationship a lot more. And I think Janine learned to appreciate that she doesn’t have to change who she is."
