Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 (season 18 overall) is almost here ... and it looks like something ominous is in store for one member of the BAU.
The hit Criminal Minds reboot will be airing new episodes beginning May 8, 2025 on Paramount+, and viewers are ready to see what is happening with our favorite FBI agents. While details on the new season are slowly being revealed to the audience, folks got a first taste of what's to come in a way they weren't expecting.
Paramount+ decided they'd drop a teaser trailer for fans to see on April 10, previewing the BAU's next case involving their favorite UnSub, Elias Voit (Zach Gilford). But the clip also showed previews of situations the BAU finds themselves involved in ... and each moment feels more sinister than the next.
"Can I tell you a secret?" BAU section chief Emily Prentiss (played by Paget Brewster) can be heard saying in the 30-second clip. "You think this job is about staring down evil. But it's not."
Given how the show loves to oscillate between the BAU's criminal cases and the lives of the members working them, viewers grew concerned for what would happen to SSA J.J. Jareau (A.J. Cook) after seeing her look shaken and forlorn in the the snippet.
"Nooo my J.J. 💔💔 I know A.J. is gonna eat with this," one person lamented in the comments. "Are you talking about that shot where [J.J.] looks disoriented? I’m trying to figure out that out myself lol," another added.
While the show hasn't shared everything about the new season of Criminal Minds: Evolution, it's clear there will be lots of danger and horror along the way. And as for J.J.'s storyline this season, that's unclear, too. But given how showrunner Erica Messer teased Matthew Gray Gubler's return to the show later this season, we wonder if he'll have anything to do with his former team member's trajectory in season 3.
"Without spoiling anything, when you really need your friends, it's usually big life things are happening," she teased to Entertainment Weekly on April 10. "So, I will say that the big life thing is happening and we get to see Spencer."
Guess we'll just have to tune in and see what this is all about.
