Katy Perry made a big splash this week with news of her 8-minute flight to space. She joined Gayle King and Lauren Sánchez on a Blue Origin rocket, and the short journey has gotten a huge reaction from the public. When Luke Bryan joined Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night talk show, he was asked what he thought about his friend and former American Idol costar's trip, and the country music star did not hold back.

Luke said he got wind of the flight when he was doing his morning walk around his farm. He was scrolling Instagram and learned that the rocket was about to take off. He said, "I accidentally started following it." He saw Katy's social media post and "totally got roped in the moment, went and clicked on the links." He had reached out to Katy when he first heard the news, and then "there I am on my farm watching the one-hour telecast of it...it roped me in. Because, when you have a friend—let's face it. It could blow up. So I wanted it to not do that."

"I saw her kiss the ground, which that would be my reaction."

Jimmy then showed a clip of Katy being congratulated and told, "You're officially an astronaut." And she replied, "I feel super connected to love...I think this experience has shown me you never know how much love is inside of you, like how much love you have to give."

Luke reacted to the clip, asking, "Was there a pre-flight meal? Did [Jeff] Bezos serve mushrooms? I really want to go to space now!" Jimmy asked if Luke would really go to space and pointed out he could be a space cowboy. Luke said, "Or the space redneck or country boy in space. Or the bass fisherman in space."

He continued to say, "It must've been quite the euphoric ride through the cosmos, Katy. Maybe she'll debrief me on those emotions." Luke ultimately explained that he'd like to go to space himself, even though his family wouldn't be happy about it. He said, "You gotta do it. You gotta take that chance. Now that I've said that publicly, I'll have to have the negotiations. But it roped me in. I was just glad they got back safely."
