American Idol loves to deliver major twists — but this one seriously threw us for a loop!

The ABC series is in the middle of airing season 23, and fans are waiting to see which of the contestants manages to win it all. While there's still time before the season finale, American Idol decided to try something different as the competition slowly gets into the live show portion of the season. As for what the surprise is, well it comes in the form of celebrating all things family and faith.

People announced on April 3 that American Idol will air a 3-hour live TV special on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. The "Songs of Faith" episode will see the Top 20 Idol contestants sing songs inspired by their faith as they fight their way to the next round. But they're not the only personalities taking the stage that night! Judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie will also be singing special performances — something the show hasn't shown yet from the trio this season.

Now, that's a lot of talent on one TV screen — and we're super stoked about it! But since the "Songs of Faith" episode is celebrating Easter Sunday, American Idol had to bring out more incredible voices for the occasion.

Alongside the Idol talent already vying for superstardom, viewers will get to hear tunes sung by Grammy-winner CeCe Winans and Idol season 22 alum Roman Collins. Additionally, Idol's brand-new "Artist in Residence," country sensation Jelly Roll, will sing some songs for the occasion, and Christian singer Brandon Lake and children's gospel group The Brown Four will offer inspirational words with their own original songs.

Well, this should be quite a night for everyone participating and for those watching at home. And while American Idol didn't deliver any other details about what's to come on the special "Songs of Faith" episode, we can only imagine it's going to be a night to remember.

We'll be sure to mark our calendars for this!
