It's been almost a year since The Good Doctor aired its final episode, with fans saying goodbye to star Freddie Highmore. While folks have been waiting to see what's happening with Freddie's next TV project, it turns out the actor has something else up his sleeve — and it's coming so soon.

In a press release from CBS on March 31, the network revealed new details behind an upcoming episode of the hit procedural drama Fire Country. While Freddie isn't attached to the series as one of the stars, he will have a behind-the-scenes moment in a way no one expected.

So, what exactly is Freddie doing when it comes to Fire Country? Well, CBS shared that the season 3 episode "Eyes and Ears Everywhere" (which airs on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 9 p.m. ET) will be directed by none other than Freddie himself. And that's not all. Freddie's direction will be a surprise TV reunion for him and his former Bates Motel co-star Max Thieriot (who created, executive produces and stars on Fire Country).

When fans learned that Freddie is stepping behind the camera for an episode of Fire Country, it was clear they were excited by the surprise news.

"Congratulations Freddie!" one person wrote on Instagram. "Yayyy Freddie 🔥🔥," another exclaimed. "Right? This is awesome! 🙌," a different follower replied.

As fans may remember, Freddie and Max portrayed half brothers Norman Bates and Dylan Massett on Bates Motel. The two were part of the cast throughout the show's five season run on A&E, and they both went on to star in huge shows after Bates Motel ended in 2017. Folks know Freddie went on to play Dr. Shaun Murphy for seven seasons on The Good Doctor on ABC, while Max starred on SEAL Team on CBS through season 6. Now, Max is working on Fire Country, bringing the two stars back together in the most unexpected way.

It's also cool to note that this isn't the only time Freddie has directed episodes of a TV show. He previous directed a season 5 episode of Bates Motel in 2017, and he later would direct four episodes of The Good Doctor (one in 2019, one in 2020, one in 2021 and one in 2023) over the course of his time working on the show.

Well, with all of this happening for Freddie, we can't wait to see what he has in store for Fire Country!
