It's a great time for HGTV fans because the oh-so-popular competition series Rock the Block is officially back for a new season.
As one of the network's highest-rated shows, fans can look forward to seven new episodes, but the new season is unlike any other in the show's history. This time around, veteran home renovators are up against rookies looking for a win. The veteran team will include Alison Victoria (Sin City Rehab) and Michel Smith Boyd (Luxe for Less) alongside Jonathan Knight and Jordan Knight (yes, as in the members of New Kids on the Block). They'll be up against a team of show newcomers, including Chelsea and DeBoer (Down Home Fab) and Kamohai and Tristyn Kalama (Renovation Aloha).
Rock the Block host Ty Pennington took to Instagram to share news with show fans with a caption taking advantage of his New Kids on the Block co-stars that read, "New kids are quite literally on the Block."
This season, the contestants will be battling over a six-week period just outside Salt Lake City, Utah with a $250,000 budget for their renovations. Each team will have identical modern properties with stunning mountain views to make their own. The properties also boast the largest backyards in the show's history, so fans can expect some serious creativity. By the end of the competition, the team with the highest appraised value for their home will be crowned season 6 champions and have a street named in their honor.
"I have the best seat in the house to the toughest home renovation competition on television," said Ty. "And for the first time on Rock the Block, returning veteran teams will clash with rookie teams who have something to prove. They'll test their skills and push their limits for not only bragging rights but, more importantly, to leave a legacy on the block."
As much as we're sure fans will have their own strong opinions on each project, the show is leaving it all up to the judges. The series is keeping it all in the HGTV family with blind judging done by former Rock the Block contender Mina Starsiak Hawk and previous winner Jasmine Roth who will judge first-floor areas. The main suite will be rated by interior designers Ray and Eilyn Jimenez from Divided By Design. Other judges include Kim Myles from Battle on the Mountain, more previous series winners, and Property Brothers star Jonathan Scott.
Season 6 of Rock the Block will premiere Monday, April 14 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HGTV with the first episode being a special two-hour event.
