HGTV stars, they're just like us. These renovating pros have chill nights in with their families, edit their skincare routine down to a simple, two-step process, and, yes, even have their struggles with a certain green-eyed monster. In a new interview with Us Weekly, Erin Napier reveals that she gets a little jealous when “someone who looks too much like a supermodel” slides into husband Ben’s direct messages.
While she trusts her husband “110 percent”—and shares that the two spend most of their time together—she admits that her imagination can run a little wild. Case in point: Erin shared that she felt a little uneasy on “a random Tuesday” when Ben had to go home to take a mid-day shower after spilling something all over himself. She told him about her feelings but claims she “was not accusatory,” explaining, “I just wanted to let [him] know how creative my mind is.”
Of course, there was nothing to worry about in the first place. Ben recounts: “Before she even called, she was like, ‘This is silly. Why am I thinking this?’”
Though being jealous of a spouse’s DMs might be a little eyebrow-raising, we applaud Erin for her vulnerability. After all, the Home Town Takeover stars have been together since college—so there are bound to be some bumps along the tunnel of love. All couples have their struggles, so why not be honest about them? As Erin and Ben prove, there’s always a way to work through a little bit of jealousy.
When House Beautiful chatted with the HGTV stars earlier this month, they asked them about their secrets to a happy, healthy marriage. Their advice: Prioritize communication and teamwork.
“At the end of the day, we love each other and we’re best friends,” Ben told House Beautiful. “Most of the time, people aren’t out to get you: They’re just out here surviving like the rest of us—especially, especially your spouse. We say the same thing all the time because we’re on the same team and we’re in this together.”
