This book is mysterious and important.

Apple has exclusively released the first eight chapters of The You You Are, the self-help book featured in Apple TV’s hit show Severance. Now, much like the “innies” who work at the mysterious Lumon Industries, you too can be inspired by the inimitable words of Dr. Ricken.

Currently airing new episodes of its second season, Severance is a corporate sci-fi drama about a procedure that severs people’s memories between their work selves (“innies”) and their outside selves. When a copy of The You You Are finds its way into Lumon, its assertion that “your job needs you, not the other way around” starts a revolution amongst the severed workers.

The You You Are

The You You Are is now available for free as an e-book or audiobook via Apple. The book's description reads, “In his quinquennial tome, Dr. Ricken Lazlo Hale, Ph.D. guides You on a brave journey of self-learnedness. Fertile with mind-engorging insights, The You You Are is an invitation to merge with your true ‘You,’ and expel from your essence the dead-eyed conventionalism that has defined your life since infancy.”

Dr. Ricken’s work may not help you if you, like Mr. Milchick, have been accused of using too many big words. But if you open your mind to Dr. Ricken’s verbose wisdom, perhaps you too, like the innies at Lumon, can find yourself inspired to make a change.

One reviewer comments, “From commencement to terminus, this astounding work of elephantine savvy elucidates the inner workings of human consciousness.”

Another raves, “Kier would be proud of the way this book redefines personal growth while maintaining strict workplace productivity.”

The You You Are offers tantalizing insights to not only to your own psyche, but to the world of Severance at large. It offers more glimpses of Ricken’s distinct philosophy and “an exclusive letter of apology from the author himself, addressed to none other than YOU.” (It also contains a few eye-opening details about your favorite Severance characters.)

Redditors are speculating that this is the version of Ricken's book edited specifically for innies, as teased in the early episodes of season two — but you'll likely have to keep watching the rest of the season to officially find out.

If a copy of The You You Are doesn’t mysteriously appear in your workplace, you can download it now for free as an e-book or audio book via Apple Books.
