Nick Offerman and his wife Megan Mullally are one celebrity couple with a marriage that has stood the test of time. Folks love to see the two together in whatever they're working on — and they often come together to feature in each other's projects. And with Nick being in the spotlight as the official announcer for the 2025 Oscars, it's only fair we take a look at how this couple stays so strong!
As far as Hollywood romances go, Nick and Megan's is one that's familiar. The two first met in Los Angeles in 2000, when they both were starring in the Evidence Room Theatre Company's production of the play The Berlin Circle. Although the two had a 12-year age gap (she was 41 while he was 29), Megan told Buzzfeed in 2013 she couldn't help but be attracted to Nick's sense of humor. Surprisingly, Nick wasn't familiar with Megan's work on TV — particularly her hit role as Karen Walker on the popular sitcom Will and Grace.
"We had a lot of scenes together, and I started thinking, 'Wait a minute, he's funny,'" she told the outlet at the time. "And then I started thinking, 'Wait a minute, is he cute?' What's happening?"
Shortly after they met, Nick and Megan began to date ... and he quickly got familiar with Megan's life on television. Nick eventually guest starred on a season 3 episode of Will and Grace, and as he told IndieWire in 2013, he became a support for her at tapings during that season.
As a couple with a shared sense of humor, it turns out Nick "fake proposed" to Megan three times in Paris before proposing for real. He actually had the Will and Grace costume designer give him fake rings, according to People. The fourth time was the charm, when Nick proposed for real while the couple were in London in 2002.
"It was in Regent's Park that I bent my knee and presented my hand-carved, walnut, heart-shaped ring box," he told The Guardian in 2018. "Magically, the ducks on the water and birds in the air began to furiously copulate all around us. Something made the moment bigger than the two of us. It was fated by Mother Nature."
The couple eventually wed in a private ceremony in September 2003, with Megan's Will and Grace co-stars (including Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes and Debra Messing) in attendance. And while their careers were heating up, Megan spoke to GQ about a personal decision the two made not to have any children. She told the outlet in 2017 that while they tried for a little while, the duo eventually felt starting a family wasn't in the cards and instead focused on working on joint projects together.
"I never had a burning desire to have children," she said at the time. "But then I met Nick, and I thought 'This is the only person I'd do this with.' So we tried, but I was a little long in the tooth for that sort of thing. But we didn't turn it into a soap opera. We tried for about a year or so, and it didn't happen, and took that to mean it wasn't meant to be."
It's easy to see how much Nick and Megan enjoy being together. They've teamed up on a number of mutual acting projects together, including Megan guest starring on 10 episodes of Nick's sitcom Parks and Recreation. They also have embarked on their own comedy tour, published a joint memoir in 2018, launched a podcast together and have had joint recurring roles on projects like The Umbrella Academy in 2024.
As for how Nick and Megan's romance continues to stay strong, Nick swore it came from Megan seeing potential in him that he didn't realize existed back when they first met.
"Megan took a chance on me," he sweetly shared about his partner on Sundance TV's The Mortified Sessions in 2011. "It was quite the roll of the dice that she rescued me from the squalor I was living in at the time."
We so adore their love!
