The Oscars are almost here, and this year's best animated feature nominees are especially emotional, with The Wild Robot emerging as the frontrunner for the Academy Award.

According to Senior Parenting & Relationships Editor Marisa LaScala, Good Housekeeping's resident kid movie expert, The Wild Robot joins Memoirs of a Snail and Inside Out 2 in the "pretty sad" category, while "Flow isn't exactly sad, but it takes place in a flood-ravaged world devoid of people. Only Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is a comedy!"

As the predicted winner, The Wild Robot is definitely worth a watch ahead of the March 2 Oscars ceremony. If you missed it in theaters, there's good news: The Wild Robot is now available to stream at home. Keep reading to find out where to watch — and what makes it a must-see for kids and parents.

What is The Wild Robot about?

Based on the New York Times bestselling book of the same name by author Peter Brown, the animated sci-fi movie follows Roz, a shipwrecked robot on an uninhabited island. As Roz adjusts to unfamiliar surroundings, the robot slowly gets to know the animals on the island and adopts an orphaned gosling named Brightbill.

"I think it took people by surprise how much The Wild Robot is a parenting story, especially if you're just expecting it to be a fish-out-of-water tale about a robot living in the woods," Marisa says. "Instead, parents deeply connected with Roz raising a gosling to fly away on his own — a journey that mirrors their own parenting experiences. Perhaps a little too closely?"
