Kelsea Ballerini has a loyal legion of fans, but The Voice coached paused a recent concert to call out fans who were being a little too loyal.
One of Kelsea's most famous songs is her breakup anthem, "Penthouse." The lyrics chronicle her divorce from country singer Morgan Evans. During her concerts, she sings: "And it stings rolling up the welcome mat/Knowing you got half" followed by a powerful pause. Then Kelsea belts out, "I kissed someone new last night/Now I don't care where you're sleeping, baby."
This is a "Healed Version" of the song. It's been three years since Kelsea and Morgan divorced, and she is now happily dating Outer Banks star Chase Stokes. Kelsea even switched up the lyrics to reflect her current situation, but, at recent concerts, a few fans have taken her pause after "Knowing you got half" to yell out disparaging remarks about Morgan.
When this happened at her recent show in Hollywood, Florida, Kelsea stopped the song and addressed the crowd. According to videos shared on Tik Tok, she said, "Guys, we have to stop saying that. Seriously. We're 3 years past it, everything's fine now. I sing this song for you now, it's not about me now. Please. For everyone that's moving forward with their life, we can sing this one."
Kelsea's tour has been a bit of a rollercoaster, filled with highs (like selling out Nashville's Bridgestone Arena) and lows (cancelling shows due to illness) and even funny moments (stopping a show for a wardrobe malfunction). Her tour dates continue into April, and we hope her fans embrace her positive attitude for the remaining performances!
