It's been four decades since St. Elmo's Fire first hit theaters — and one of its stars is talking about the movie's potential spinoff future.

During the 2025 Super Bowl on February 9, Entertainment Tonight caught up with actor Rob Lowe, who played William "Billy" Hicks in the 1985 movie. As the two talked about other topics, it was only natural that conversation would eventually turn to if there was a possibility for a St. Elmo's Fire sequel to emerge. Well, Rob not only revealed there's a chance for another movie, but the entire cast (which includes Emilio Estevez, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Andrew McCarthy and more) was into the idea of reprising their roles as well.

"Everybody wants to do it," The Floor host shared in a video posted on Instagram on February 11. "We're making it happen, you know. The script's getting written, and then we're off and running. But gotta write the script — which they're doing."

Well, this is definitely a surprise we weren't expecting! But given how St. Elmo's Fire is a classic Brat Pack movie from the 1980s, it makes sense people would want to see the characters come back to life. And as Rob later pointed out, the premise of the film — following a group of friends navigating life after college — is an eternal concept many go through in the early stages of adulthood.

"I think the reason that people like [St. Elmo's Fire] in the first place and continue to like it is they fell in love with those characters and what their stories were — and the ages that they were — were interesting to them," Rob added. "I don't think anything's changed. I think it's actually gotten more interesting. So, it's like what happens as you're entering the second chapter of your life, as opposed to the first chapter, which was the original."

While it may seem unexpected for Rob to talk about the future of St. Elmo's Fire, this actually isn't the first time the subject came up.

The actor first revealed plans for a sequel in July 2024, and later opened up about how he and Demi (who portrayed Julianna "Jules" Van Patten) were pushing for movement on whether the movie will return.

"We’re very much in contact now because we are actively trying to do [the] St. Elmo’s Fire sequel," Rob stated on Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast in October 2024. "It’s going a little more slowly than I would have liked. But that’s a good thing because we’re trying to find the right writer and the right story. But all of the actors, everybody is on board. Everybody is excited."

Well, let's all grab a drink and toast to St. Elmo's Fire coming back one last time.
