It’s been a long time since we’ve seen the beloved ‘90s character, Tim “The Toolman” Taylor, but this January, Tim Allen is giving us the next best thing: A new, handyman-inspired sitcom on ABC.
“Shifting Gears stars Tim Allen as Matt, the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop,” a press release reads. “When Matt’s estranged daughter (Kat Dennings) and her kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.”
Filled with dad jokes, classic father-daughter head-butting, and teenage antics galore, Shifting Gears is expected to be a hoot—and fans can’t wait to tune in.
“I'm so excited! I needed a Tim Allen fix in my life,” one fan commented on Instagram. “This looks really good! So excited for Tim Allen to be back on TV,” another fan exclaimed. “Yes! Tim Allen AND Kat Dennings?! All is right with the world,” someone else remarked.
As excited as ‘90s babies are to see Tim and Kat together in a comedy, many can’t wait to see Seann William Scott (who famously played Stifler in American Pie), as well.

“It’s Stifler!!!!! Great cast!!!!! Tim Allen is the forever dad of all millennials,” one stoked fan commented on a post showcasing the main cast. “Awesome casting!!! Stifler,” someone else exclaimed. “Seann William Scott??? I'm expecting 'Dude Where's My Car' references,” someone else joked.
Shifting Gears premieres on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 8/7c on ABC, with next-day streaming available on Hulu.
